How to record into your PC?

I know this has probably been asked before but how do you hook up your decks to the pc in order to record your mixes? I have soundlab which I believe is alright to use for recording but I'm not 100% sure on how to get everything set up. Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Jack.

Jack,
It is always better to do a search before you post a question like this. If you are asking it, that means it has probably been asked before.

All you need to do is to run a line out from the master out of your mixer to the line in on your soundcard. You will probably need a coax -> mini jack adapter to do this. They also make external sound cards (m-audio) that will allow a true stereo connection (red/white) into the soundcard and then USB connection to our computer.

Then get some software to capture the sound - like Soundforge, or a good free one I use is Audacity, it can then be saved as a .wav file

Questoin along those lines... If you use SoundForge, don't you need to record to WAV first, and then convert to MP3?

How do you record an 80 min set? Wouldn't you need like gigs of space?

i use soundforge. i dont know if you HAVE to record to wav first, but i do. i record to wave, burn the master copy onto cd, and then save it as an mp3.

this way i have an uncompressed version as a .wav file.

Yeah it takes quite a lot of space - just recently did a mix to burn onto CD and the .wav file was 369MB!!
then I chopped it into individual tracks and put it onto CD without the pauses in between. This way I could hear the whole complete mix but also jump to the tracks I want.

With Total Recorder you can directly save it as mp3 I think. Don't know if it has all the options from the other programs though.
