Stanton vs Ortofon

Just wondering why most top DJ's continue to use Stanton carts if Ortofons are so much better?

Wouldn't they use the best carts available in order to get the best out of the sound system?

Well, most Ortofon cartridges aren't designed for DJing - they're strictly music-listening cartridges. Most Stanton cartridges, on the other hand, can withstand the abuse of DJing, such as scratching and intentionally rotating the turntable platter backwards.

Well, wrong you are, Shady. Ortofon has *the* best series of DJ cartridges alongside their audiophile carts (such as Rohmann and Jubilee). Ortofon Concorde and OM series (ranging from Pro to Nightclub) are specifically designed for the DJ needs. And IMHO Stanton cartridges are HORRIBLE for the price you pay for them. I've had them fail on me in the middle of a set on more than one occasion. I strongly advise against Stanton carts, especially their Trackmaster / Groovemaster series.

How I love it when people spread their ignorance. Would it kill you if you checked your "facts" before mindlessly posting ?

ever tried to put extra weight on your ortofon needle when you need more needle preassure? When using the stanton 500, just put a coin on it, that won't work with ortofon.

With an Ortofon cart you don't NEED to put coins for extra pressure to begin with.
Or if you really want to mess with coins and drive the needle with pressures way past its specifications, you can buy an Ortofon OM version which mounts on a standard headshell and put all the coins you want on it. I just wouldn't want to see your records after playing them a few times on such a setup.

I don't see why you would want to do that because the cart wouldn't track any better, it would sound horrible, and the stylus and your records would wear out extremely fast. But yes, you can do it.

Cool

Orfoton DJ cartridges are the best on the market.
Why would you need so much weight anyway, and where would you put a coin on the DJ S series?

My setup is:
Decks - Technics sl-1200 mk2 Silver
Cartridges - Oftofon DJ S Blue
Tonearm height - 5.5mm
Weight - 1.75g
Anti-Skate - 1.5

And I can mix and scratch without any skipping or hiss.

How about taking the tonearm weight completely off the back and then glueing it onto the headshell?
