I initially wanted to buy electric drums but they cost $10,000 and I have a coordination problem when it comes to drumming anyway.
So i'll just buy a drum pattern generator...

I don't own it, but I have heard very good things about spectrasonic Stylus RMX. You can find it in the sticky best vsti's.

Stylus rmx is great. Has a buttload of loops already made for all kinds of tempos', you can also just take what sounds you want and make your own from them.
