I used to think that it was best to buy some cheap TT's to start with, and save up for some Technics in the future.
This turned out to be a bad idea.
I bought a cheap set of TT's from a friend for £100. They were absolutely useless, but I loved them because they were my own TT's and I could spin vinyl. I got quite good using them as well.
Then I strted buying vinyl. Lots of vinyl. Then, I bough some more vinyl. And after that, I bought some more vinyl. Guess what I bought next? Yep, more vinyl.
Trouble is, once you have TT's you just can't stop buying vinyl. This is bad news if you're trying to save up for Technics. You'll never get there, because you'll just keep spending the money on vinyl. (Trust me, you will.)
I was lucky, because a couple of months ago I started uni and got a nice fat £950 student loan check, which I used to buy some Technics. Not many people are going to get a £950 check out of the blue.
If you are in the same situation as me, by all means get some cheapo decks to start off with as you know you'll be able to afford the Technics in the near future. If not, keep saving for now, otherwise you'll never get your Techs!
