What's wrong with this forum?

---I posted the below in a different topic but I just thaught that it should be read by people, so here I'm making a new topic.---

I just joined today and I think that this forum is great and all, it does have 1000s of active users and most of the people are nice to each other. What pisses me off are the total noobs that post shit all the time. If I was the admin, all of them would be gone. Posting shit like "wtf this sucks" is considered spam, too, people! Posting crap about someone elses religion is wrong, too. Keep some of your beliefs to yourself!

Most of the boards that I am (was) subscribed to are very strict boards, with no porn, no spam, and if there is spam, it's always deleted by an admin in seconds who watches a forum all the frickin time. THIS is not a soft porn site and yet people post soft-porn pics everywhere. This forum is different. Come on admins! Close topics! Ban people! Edit threads! I just read that one's leaving because there's so much spam he doesn't want to be a mod anymore. WTF. It's his job to ban people/edit threads. Come on... Bitches!

Why aren't words censored? I'm not a crybaby or anything but they should be. When I'd post "Fuck" it should be censored and yet it it isn't. It would bring a lot more people -- younger audiences. To you, fuck might not mean much but here in the U.S. it is always censored.

I'm here for one day and it seems like I know everything. Flame me, whatever, I don't care. I hope this will be read by someone and taken seriously. Just remember, people will read your stupid comments. Read your own post twice before you're posting if you need to.

This isnt the united states, its the fucking internet. I agree with you to some extent on issues i will describe later; however, profanity and porn is part of the internet. Use of the internet should be up to the discretion of your parents when you are young to make sure that certain sites are not accessed by installing programs that restrict access to violence, nudity, and language.

Now the chill out room is such a mess, especially when some people consistently make multiple nonsense threads. Those people who be banned.

Does the forum you're on have 46,744 registered members? Mods are humans too. And last time I checked TA had a swearfilter. ****, mother******, ******t. Oh goody it still has, and like already mentioned this is not the United States. (thankfully)

I agree that COR is a giant mess that needs to be cleaned up though.

You want to be taken seriously? In that case, I suggest you base your complaints and criticism on actual arguments rather than essentially saying, "this is how it should be, and I base this on absolutely nothing."

Don't like people knocking each other's religious beliefs? Why not? Does it make you feel insecure in your beliefs? Are you afriad your fragile belief structure can't hold up to unbiased critical analysis? If topics of theology aren't particularly your cup of tea, then I'd advise you to simply avoid them. However, that you seem to feel the need to quash all critical discussion of such topics indicates to me that you have a deeper and more profound fear of such discourse.

Not a fan of partial nudity or vulgar language? What's the big deal? Is your exposure to potentially objectionable imagery or language going to compel you to break out in an orgy of sex and violence? Will it cause you unfathomable financial and physiological harm? If not, then why is it any of your business what other members of the forum choose to use to express themselves? If you're going to ask for change, at least provide some justification for your arbitrary classifications of what ought or ought not to be acceptable content.

It seems to me that you're more comfortable in a sheltered, limited environment where everybody has the same values and beliefs. That's all very good, but at some point in your life you're going to have to learn to deal with the real world, where people don't always agree and you can't expect everybody else to cater to your petty personal preferences. You have two choices: you can brave the turbulent waters of reality and grow harder, more adaptable, and less easily shaken, or you can run and hide in the darkest corner of the Earth that you can find, covering your ears and closing your eyes in the hopes that nothing you might find disagreeable will ever make it's way into your mind.

I for one have no perference regarding which path you should choose to pursue. However, I do believe it would be to your credit if you could find the inner strength to pursue that course with less of this obnoxious banter.

I never said I don't like it. Actually, the first sentence states "(...)I think that this forum is great(...)". Read!!!

It is not the United States/Canada/England, OK, but the majority speaks English here and some (probably) don't even have an idea that they're really swearing... If they'd translate that shit that they're posting in English to their langauage I think they would be stunned wtf they just wrote. See my point? Writing, "OMFG you damn bitches shut the fuck up, post pics or else..." is wrong peeps.

A little bit more, in fact, Atari Community, which is one of the best gaming communities out there, has 127,919 (and growing!) memebers. Yet, there is very little spam, you DO NOT have to wait 2 days for verification of your account, mods are always on... They don't tolerate spam and on the other hand, you can talk about almost anything you want, freely.

That's another issue. You're talking about the desensitizing of swearing in everyday life. This is a common "problem" whereever you go, this forum included. However, it is not the job of the moderators of TA to correct this beyond the already mentioned swearfilter. Also, the extreme examples you just mentioned (of which I haven't seen a lot of lately) usually get banned after a short period of time anyway. If you're unable to cope with this and find it so offensive I doubt TA is a place for you. But then again like Arbiter said, you'll have this kind of trouble in lots of other places too. In the end it's your loss if you let this get in the way of joining a great community, like you just said TA is.

Well then TA moderators, it seems like you better shape up.

Shape up?

there is no one on the forums thats ever gonna be happy with what the mods do, you act too tough on ppl and they say you are a power mad nazi, let them get away with some shit and they say you are too soft on ppl.

I think the mods on TA do an excellent job, every other forum except the COR is for the majority of time, safe for viewing by the majority of ages, gender, race etc without too much flaming (yes ppl still get flamed but often ppl's emotions run away with them during a debate/arguement)

if the stupid posts / posters are kept to the COR then at least you all know its in the cor and then its up to u if you want to view that forum or not.
the worst of the threads / posts / posters in the cor are dealt with, pics of porn, outright flaming or ganging up on an individual is not tolerated, the odd drunk thread does not do anyone any harm and as long as the forum is not covered in drunk threads than imo its fine.
Multiple fad threads are also dealt with, we let the wtf alliance thread continue because its contained to the one thread, the COR serves its purpose, ppl post silly crap there as a release, you can't be serious 100% of the time.
generally the users that post in the COR are alright and do particpate in a positive way in other forums on this site.
Those who are repeat offenders or ignore on a regular basis the few rules we have are banned.

However if you have any ideas on how Swamper / the mods of TA can improove the site then you are welcome to post them in this section and all sensible ideas are considered.

All the mods are approchable at any time if you have a problem, just send them a PM and they will help you to the best of thier abilities.

Newbie question: How do I determinate if a person is a mod? I know that every forum has a "Moderated by:" writing on the top, but besides that? You don't have "Moderator" written under your name...
