speakers similar to JBL eons

hi guys, im needing some advice on PA equipment, now i had a gig on last weekend and my partner and i hired a pair of 15" JBL Eon G2s. both of us where really surprised @ these things and we didnt want to take them back lol .

the store we hired them from said they retailed @ $1600 AUD each, thats roughly $1,222 USD each. we had a browse through ebay and where able to find them at $1100 USD a pair !

now what im asking is are there any speakers similar in performance (dont care if there not AS good) to the JBLs? and if we do buy the ones from the US would we have to pay a shitload in taxes to get them over here?

thanks.

You're getting ripped off. Musician's Friend here in the US if run by the Guitar Center, a very well known music equipment distributor. I shop there all the time for my stuff. Anyways, here's the link to that page for $699 USD a piece.

Check out also http://www.hkaudio.com/Portable/Active/lucas_1000/ - they are available in Oz - they have a system call L.U.C.A.S. which is a powered subwoofer that also contains amps for 2 regular speakers.

In USA there is a company B-52 that has a similar system http://www.b-52pro.com/models/Matrix1000.html

The JBL Eons and Mackie 450's have the advantage that each unit is independent so if one dies you have the other still working, and each only weighs 50 lb so it's easy for one person to set up and move around. Whereas if you have a separate subwoofer it is usually 100 lb or more and too big for some cars. And if the subwoofer box also contains amps for the other 2 speakers then it is possible the entire system will die and you have no backup.
