Im gonna be changing my uni course to something else (cos im too stupid to pass my current one) and ive been thinking of doing a teaching one, because it wont be too hard + there's lots of perks to the job you get in the end. Not sure what i want to learn to teach yet though. The course lets you go straight into a school where you would teach 12-18 year olds and id be earning about £20k+.

So does anyone else here do it? What do you think of the job? Do the few annoying kids ever get to you?

We had a teacher that when people were talking during the flag salute once he took his golf club and hit his coffee mug as hard as he could it fucking exploded and went everywhere. Everyone shut the fuck up and after salute sat down and didnt say a word for 50 minutes as he sat their at his desk pissed off.

12-18 kids? Good luck! Students these days don't have respect for authority. They think they know everything. If you are going to be a teacher don't ever let them see you coming, on one of the students that is, that would get you fired instantly. Be strict and don't date your students.

But teaching is a good career. There's nothing like teaching other people. There will always be students willing to learn but there will also be students sent by the devil to make your life miserable. It's a fun trip if you have control.

the place lacks discipline now, the headmaster left to a better job & a woman took his job & she has no respect, the old lot used to strike fear into u and u respected out of that on the whole, now the place is just a rundown shithole

I don't think I'd like teaching at all, so futile ... every year teaching just another group of jackasses, over, and over, and over again, never ending. It doesn't go anywhere...

It'd be one thing if it were college (you'd probably make more money too), 'cause then you could be in some sort of higher level research, book writing, etc.


But whatever.

Don't really post on here but thought this might help you. I am a third year doing a BSc course followed by a PGCE which I will start in September (for secondary PE). At the moment I spend one day a week in a mixed comprehensive in a fairly deprived area. It is tough and can be disheartening if you have spent hours planning activities and the kids just arent interested and muck about. However it can be very rewarding too, kids tend to say what they think, there will be many who shoot you down but then just one kid will say they think you are great and it will make it all seem worthwhile.

Im assuming you will be doing a BEd course or BA/BSc that leads to QTS, sorry if im wrong. I have friends doing the BEd course and it is very tough right from the beginning. They are doing primary though and its different as they have to cover all the subjects over the 3 years so the difficulty is the same all across so the first year is tough whereas for secondary as you only have one subject maybe it is more progressive, i don't know though you would have to check it out.

Don't go for teaching just because you think it may be an easy option. It is very stressful and can be hard to earn respect, but then i am 21 trying to teach 18 year olds, I have friends the same age. I wanted to teach since i was 12 and I think its one of those things that you just know you want to do. If you don't have any experience with kids then try some volunteer work, or do what im doing and go into a secondary school for one day a week, that really is the only way to find out if its what you want to do.

The subject you teach would have to be one of your a levels/highers whatever (i think), go for the one you enjoyed the most, if you have a passion for the subject it will come across in your teaching, plus you will enjoy it more.

Also don't forget a lot of the holidays you get you will need for planning and marking so its not as good as it sounds. I think the starting wage is about 19K at the moment so its good for local work without having to travel to a city, and when you qualify in 3 years time its bound to have gone up by then.

I teach Spanish to ages 3-7 in a Catholic school. I'm only in my second year of college. I got this job thanks to networking. I find that the mental processes of 3 year olds aren't developed enough to actually obtain much. Therefore I LOVE the children who do listen and learn instead of most who are running around, crying and hitting. On the good days ( it can be scientifically proven that kids are terrors with nice weather) you walk out with a huge on smile on your face and they rub off on you, making you have a great day.


I want to teach Lit/English/Creative Writing with maybe a minor in Music education. I want to go for the age level 14-15 where maybe I can provide life changing perspectives and they are open enough to know they DONT know everything. Hmmmm... maybe that's even younger. 10 - 11ish... the ones who WANT to learn and aren't just there to fulfill mommy and daddys desires.


Advantages : 3 months off to travel per year ! + the opportunity to expand minds.
