Hearing Damage

I mix at loud volumes through my head phones, and normally after long sets have a ringing ear for like 20 mins or so. I was wondering how long till someone goes deff regularly doing this? Or is it more genetics?

Urgent!

Do something about it; NOW.

It is not how long, but how many times.
Actually I am inclined to think that each damage like that has a very small, but cumulative effect.

And yes, ear tissue regrows and readapts.
Studies have shown that vitamin E may help at that "repairing" process. No more than 200mg per day(recent findings gave 400mg-usual dosage- might be a little over the limit).

So -again- do something there're many alternatives.
That one is your hearing so whatever me or anybody says, at the end it is your search.

Ringing caused by excessive exposure is caused by the hair folicles in the coclea- these do not regrow or heal. any ringing is a sign of damage, and the eventually the ringing (tinnitus) becomes permanent

www.hearingprotection.co.uk - musicians earplugs.

Freak is right... If you don't have to mix at loud levels, don't do it. Because your hearing won't get better in the long run. If your hearing is getting as bad as mine, you should probably stop going to clubs and using headphones all together.

I too am getting really worried about my hearing. I can't tell if it is in my mind or real but I feel like I have a slight ringing that is constant. I really only notice it when I try to sleep and I didn't notice it until I read about Tinnitus but regardless, I am concerned.

I figure that listening at loud volumes unprotected is kinda like having unprotected sex. You can probably get away with it for a while but sooner or later it's going to catch up with you. ;-)

I wish hearing loss were a bigger priority in the industry. Because once it's gone it isn't coming back. Too bad nobody really talks about it.

I've started taking 'The Hearing Pill'. http://www.thehearingpill.com/ I take 2 pills, 3 times daily. Fact or fiction? I don't know but I'm willing to give it a shot.

I've also changed my monitoring configuration. Now I have my monitors behind me where as before they were firing right in to my ear. I think firing right in my ear was the biggest mistake I made. With them behind me I can mix just as well and my ears aren't fatigued when I'm done.

The last thing I did is stopped running with my iPod. 2 hours of week with it at full volumn probably isn't doing me much good.

Be safe and be smart...

Keith

Im gonna invest in earplugs strictly for when I go out. I tend to mix at high volumes also, but I dont get a ringing noise. The only time I do have ringing in my ears is when the sound system at a club is really fucked.
