Hey. True enough erty. A good place to look for those good fat bass plugins is here. Personally, I love FM7 for bass. Thats for the obvious reasons of it being modeled after the best bass synth ever, the Yamaha DX7. Not to say there arent plenty of other good alternatives. Korg Legacy Cell, if programmed right, will turn out some superb bass sounds, some rivaling that of FM7 and the DX7. The key to finding that perfect bass sound though is listening to hundreds of trance songs (literally) and finding that sound you like most. Search around on the internet for bass specializing plugins (but also check out other plugins that allow lots of filter options as well). After you have found a bunch of them, sit down, learn what each knob does by fiddling with it and seeing how it changes the sound. You could also look up what each knob does on the internet as well but for my own sake, I learn best by figuring it out myself than someone else teaching me. Keep fiddling with the knobs until you find that sound you consider to be a perfect bass, even if its a bit too long or sounds muddy when u put in a fast styled bassline, no problem; the answer can be found in gating. Theres really no limits on how you define your bass styled sound other than it shouldnt be muddy and while being bassy, its best if it still creates peaks all across the spectrum.
Cheers,
Zac
