so today they anounced the election date. Blair again? I hope so for one reason, he is much more pro EU than the other ones, they will just screw up the whole EU thing

Well its not like its the most interesting thing thats happenin in the world right now (altho we do have to have election monitors in to check voter fraud!)

Not sure who I'll vote for...depends where I am. I'm registered in Leeds and in a place near Sheffield. If I vote in Leeds I'll vote Lib Dems (who are very pro EU by the way, probably more so than Labour) but if I go home to near Sheffield there is no point whatsoever voting anyone other than Labour as it is an old coal mining community and the Labour MPs in those places tend to be of the old socialist type and they will never lose in places like that (not that I'd want them to either!)

Actually I might vote Labour in Leeds cos I dont actually mind them. Blair's a bit of a tit and the British are quite a proud nation and its embarracing having our foreign policy dictated by America (altho I would find it even more embarracing having our foreign policy dictated by a country of 5 million ) so I would like somebody who stands up to America and tells the ******s to piss off - its not like Bush is the ideological compadre of Labour and for some reason we have been allying ourselves with the right-wingers of Europe like Italy and Spain (pre-election) which is totally fucked up for Labour to do. However, their domestic record is pretty good and they introduced the minumum wage and have established stability in the economy. Altho they privatised shit loads of nationalised companies which was a big mistake (fuckin god damn mother fucking trains!!!!!! )

Still, Blair wont be around for much longer as Brown will be takin over when Blair has beaten Thatcher's record (says alot about him that I think) and I dont know why but I have better hopes for Brown than I do Blair (maybe cos of his little crusade for Africa?)

But I could have a sudden change of heart if the Conservatives decide in their mandate to KILL ALL CHAVS!!!!

Yeah it'll be Labour again, but Blair has become more a liability than an asset because no-one trusts him anymore. So they are going to win on the economy. Which is Browns achivement. I suspect that in a third term Blair will be taken out at some point. He's over centralised everything. The grass root have no sence of self worth as they are always just bullied into line.

So Labour will win but lose out to both Conservatives and Lib Dem. especially the Lib Dem I recon (thats whats bringing them closer actually, the Torries in the long term are rather unmoved). But of course the Conservatives are starting from a much better position so it'll be:

Lab
Con
LDem

But it'll be closer than it's been in a good while.

How does the election system works in the UK? Can you go to any voting place to vote? What about voting by letter - is that possible?

About the kill all chav policy I'd adopt it too. I was thinking about it and now I think Britain has a new class.

Upper Class (happy cos they piss down on everyone else and go to posh schools and so on and so forth, uses money and "friends" to make money)

Middle Class (unhappy because they want to be up there^, glad they can still piss on working class, but will do whatever it takes to get to upper class)

Working Class (not really that fussed about class thinks the rest are posh ****s, apart from the one below who they pay for)

Non-Working Class (happy as a pig in shit, which they are, doesn't want to work and doesn't have to)

Well personally i hope labour win.....dont think the conservatives would do the UK any good at all at this point in time....but they seem to be making a comeback in the polls(unfortunatly)...but its all down to Iraq...and the truth is the conservatives would have probably done the same...but it wont be a landslide for labour..be a lot closer than the last election...but i just hope people can forget Iraq when voting and look at the more positive aspects of the UK economy instead...the UK economy has done excellent under labour and still is...but i would say the Lib Dems will pick up most of the lost labour vote...but hopefully a labour victory with Blair stepping down shortly into the new term and Brown taking over...

I wonder if the result went against labour would they consider a coalition government with the lib dems? or are they just to far apart on policy.....

Anyway it should be an interesting 4 weeks...and hopefully no banana skins for labour......

Oh yeah and the reason i want labour to win is because of what they have done to try and resolve the conflict in Northern Ireland...particularily Blair...without him the situation would be nowhere near a resolution as it is today...and you can almost definatly say that the conservatives would have done nothing but limber along with the situation and would not have engaged in negotiations with the IRA which ultimatly was the way forward....

The conservatives had a history of putting weak Northern Ireland secetarys in place as a type of retirement home....although a poisened chalice at the same time....Blair stuck Mo Mowlen in place and it really took off from there...she was there to do business and she did so with the backing of Blair and his government....Blair will definatly go down in history in Ireland as the one who genuinely kicked off the peace process to bring about a lasting resolution for the first time...and the tories can kiss my ass...W**kers

You basically have to vote in the place that you are registered in but it is possible to be registered in more than one place as it goes on where you reside. Me, for example, am a student living in Leeds so I have to put my name on the register for that house (which wont be happening next year as it means I have to pay council tax!) but my parents also put me on the register at my house in Sheffield so when there is an election I get a voting slip sent to both addresses. Sounds like I could vote twice but if I did I'd go to jail as it will show up!

The country is divided up into approx 550 constituencies that each send an MP to Parliement. First past the post in each constituent and whoever returns the most MPs wins! Its similar to the House of Representatives in Congress but more representative as we vote for many parties (albeit three main ones plus the nationalist parties in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland) compared to usually just the two (meaning power is shared out a little bit more evenly to peoples opinions altho it still means, for example, this Labour government only receiving 25% of the total electorate meaning 75% of people who could vote didn't vote for the government!)

Yea people still remember what the Tories did to this country and now Michael Howard its even more in people's minds cos he was one of the main players of the Th*tcher era. I was only a kid but I can still remember stuff they did and for people older I dont think there's anyway they would go back unless they've always been die hard Conservatives, rich, or pig fucking fox hunting country folk!!

Yea that has been a superb result for Labour and altho the tensions between the two communities exist I think the people there are happy enuf with the current situation. Altho I'm sure the nationalists would love to join Ireland, I dont think they are as passionate about it as when there actually was oppression in the North.
