Do you copy your friend's mannerisms?

So I was having a moment of introspection and I did something that I never noticed that I do. On second thought, I copied it off of a co worker type person. Interesting how people can influence your mannerisms.

So, do you find that you sometimes copy your friend's habits/mannerisms or are you the one who is spreading yours?

I copy my friends mannerisms/slang and they copy mine. It all finds a good balance amongst a good circle of friends.

Examples, my friend Stef always uses the word Cajz (but in the sense of Casual with the ual cut out, hard to spell portraying the right word, but it generally means casual). So she'd try something on and go "Does this look cajz?" so lately, me and all my friends have been using cajz.

My friend steve uses PEACE OUT alot. And when he's leaving, he'd say "I'm peacin' out". Me and my friends started saying that alot lately.

My word, scope. When I see an attractive female at the bar "Yo, scope that" and that's the cue for my friends to look. Slowly catchin on.

I agree with Karim, it works both ways.

but i gotta say my friends love the shit I come up with. It's nice hearing your friends use something you came up with.

ie. sitch ->situation
perf -> perfect

Two things... Many people start twirling their hair because I do. And they curse me for it. I'm an incessant twirler. I think it's my OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder).

Also, Cinar (dj fuzion - I still think of you every day!) used to say "Good times, good times" in his own little way. And he got me saying things like "Werd to the berd" (I already said "berd is the werd" {and you're light as a feather} from the Beastie Boys).

lol I think me and paul's mannerism is probably the most destructive, but also very unusual in the sense of originality of course

hahaha!

I would agree that it is a mixture of the 2 if I like what I hear in the right context from the right person at the right time - I can be totally influenced.

My dad's girlfriend taught me this one - GWARD?? not sure how it is spelled maybe like guard but pronounced differently somehow - anyway - it signalled a way for you to let another person know something/or someone happened/came in/walked by whatever......instead of saying WTF! looking and pointing at someone - say "Gward" and then look in their general direction then slowly pan left - CLASSIC!! I thought it was hilarious at the time....forgot about until now....I shall revive the GWARD thanks EvilTree!!!

Otherwise - I find myself yelling WICKID and SWEET at many a DJ breakdown/build-up and people always look at me but meh - I gotta let the DJ know he's awesome right - it's how I managed many a picture with my fav spindoctors - DEKO-ZE knows it as my signal/cue of arrival - kinda like GINA's scream but I don't have as many telling me to shut up......CIAO BELLA is another on I am stuck on too...

WICK-ID!!!! yelling/proclaiming it soon at venue near you....

i don't really copy my friends, but that's due mainly to my unwavering lexicon to the movie swingers. money!

Yes and no. I go out of my way to try eliminating slang and other verbal manerisms out of my speech, but all too often I pick up a term that describes whatever very well, and it sticks.

It's definitely a two way street with friends. My friends copy the new slangs/mannerisms that I come up with and visca versa. But with my boyfriend, I always pick up mannerisms from him. He always says NICE....usually when something is shitty, and WOW, when something is fucked but in a funny way, and then Oh my GOD, with a huge emphasis on God. Those are the three that I say all the time that came from him.

If you hang out with someone long enough youre definatly liable to pick up some sayings or mannerisms from them.

We probly all do it, mostly on a subconsious level.
