Pakistan / Afghanistan dont understand democracy / freedom of speech

Newsweek Apologizes; Afghans Want Action

By STEPHEN GRAHAM, Associated Press Writer 53 minutes ago

Muslims in Afghanistan gave Washington three days to offer a response to a Newsweek story that claimed the Islamic holy book was desecrated at the U.S. prison in Guantanamo Bay, but the magazine apologized Sunday for the report, which prompted deadly riots across Afghanistan last week.

between Pakistan and the political cartoon and this, it seems like these Muslim countries just aren't getting it. it ends with the appology, its like they expect Washington to execute the people responsible. someone tell them thats not how a democracy works. 15 people dead for a riot over a news report? talk about jumping to conclusions

Hell when I was in a best western with my girlfriend our fridge had a missing leg and we used the bible to prop it up. Ooooo maybe the Catholic world will burn a few UN buildings, kill some people, protest, flip over some cars, and chant death threats at me.

This just shows how fanatic this religion truly is. It is just a book with some print on it, my god, what an overblown reaction to nothing. Perhaps the people protesting and killing each other should be the ones to apologize for being idiots.

so what if they reject democracy? and so what if they get fanatical about someone offending their religion? perhaps is shows a refreshing amount of commitment and absolute faith that is absent in todays society. honestly, why must we demonise people who do not accord with western ideals?

I dont have a problem demonising fanatics, its just that I have a problem with people using these fanatics to demonise the Muslim world. I hate religious fanatics whatever religion they come from but I also hate people who use these minorities to try and generalise about that particular religion...why dont these people post thread after thread about the American theocracy?

i think we should stop demonising people sticking up for what they belive in...america has gone to war to protect its democratic idelogy. anyone else does it and its a problem, or thier fanatics/fundamentalists. all fundamentalists are imo, are people who actually follow their particular faith, be it football or the bible. i dont see a problem with that. lets stop treating those who are fanatical about their religion as criminals, and start treating those who kill in the name of religion as criminals.

Spoken like a true ignorant asshole. It's ******s like you that make life harder for all the muslims in the west by generalizing like that.

Have you ever even read the Quran? I suggest you shut the fuck up since you don't know what you're talking about.

Why would I read the Quran? I don't care what their damn book preaches, it is what the people do that sets the example. A book preaching peace doesn't mean anything if you don't follow it.

Their book is flushed down the toilet, or poor them, oh the world is going to end, oh woahs me. What a bunch of overreacting to nothing. They just need another excuse to go out in the streets and burn a few more flags, kill a few more people, and burn a couple more UN buildings all over a .50 cent book and is preaching the exact opposite of what they are doing.

I like your e-smacktalking.

this isnt what you said in your first post, where you suggested that the religion was fanatical, as opposed to the people who follow it. think thats why he got so upset

And you agree that "This just shows how fanatic this religion truly is" is applicable to Christianity and Judaism??

The religion itself isn't fanatic, it is the people that can be fanatic. For example there are lots of fanatic Catholics who flocked to see Pope John Paul II when he died. They were more fanatic than your average catholic albeit in a good way. Very rarely you will see a group of Christians intentionally getting together to slur hate at another group, to maim, kill, or destroy in a retaliatory act.

I don't disagree that there are good Muslims. However do you honestly think if Newsweek reported that an Iraqi soldier flushed a bible down the toilet millions of Christians would revolt, kill each other, burn down buildings, cars, burn flags, and chant hate speeches?
