REVIEW: Kenneth Thomas, Infected Mushroom, Max Graham, Armin van Buuren, Mark Oliver

What a rockin' night.

Arrived around quarter to twelve, just in time to hear Kt drop last couple tracks of his set. Great oldschool flavour to open the night, though it was a shame that Kenneth was put on so early in the night. Hopefully this guy is booked more in Toronto, he's one of Detroit's best-kept secrets.

Infected Mushroom--what more can you say about this energetic Israeli duo. Erez and Amit put on a great show... my head is still ringing from those killer triangle sine waves...

Max Graham lived up to his reputation for taking his audience on an aural safari, from one end of the spectrum to the other. My only complaint was that after IM, Max's set opened way too slow and seemed like we had all been tossed into an icebox after a run across a sun-drenched Goa beach. Perhaps the schedule could've been tweaked to make this transition a bit more pleasant.

Mijnheer van Buuren. I have to say that his set for Guvernment's 8 year festivities was not one of the more memorable, however, Armin did oblige me and played Matt Deekay & Austin Leeds' "Taurus". Funny though, I looked into the crowd as Armin mixed this remix into the pounding beats he had opened with and everyone seemed to fall limp on the dancefloor. I guess there's no accounting for taste

It was great to see all the usual TOTA suspects out in full force. RJ, it's always a treat partying with you. You sir are a gentleman and a scholar. PM me your proper email so I can forward you that info. Barry, where were you? I was looking forward to chatting it up, though I thought I saw you at one point in the crowd, wasn't sure though. Didn't want to risk loosing my coveted front-right standing room only position. Ahh well. Aslan, I regret not sharing more than a few words but I had to get out of the cold.

All in all, a great night. Thanks to Guvernment for keeping us all safe and providing a venue with great sound (things sounded clearer than usual) and fun lighting. Great seeing everyone. Time to go drink more beer.

- Chris S.

Walked in right after midnight to see IM start their set. Had a beer, lost most of my group, got whacked in the eye about 6 times by those dipshits swinging that Israeli flag around, then found a few TOTAs up front.

Sorry for missing the meetup at 11:30 everybody, we had a few unexpected stops on the way to Toronto

IM's set was hard as shit, I'd like to know the names of the first 2 songs they played, if they have names at all (since it was a live PA and all that). Max Graham wasn't bad, but he seemed really, um, off. Perhaps a bit too much to drink, ol' Maxy? Armin, wow. Good shit as always, but goddammit, he didn't spin No One On Earth. That was the track to complete my night after he played Jump The Next Train, and it didn't happen.

The TOTAs I met tonight... DJ Ampz, SgtFoo, dancing_queen_169 (I'm not sure if I typed your username correctly, Karen... ps: you're pretty cute ), the_broad, and ortemy in coat check line at 6:45am. A few others of whose names now escape me, save for a fine young lady named Kat. I apologize for forgetting most names :P

Anyway yeah, good night, left right after Armin finished off, drove DJ Ampz home, and now I sit here typing this and eating a sausage'n'egg mcmuffin

ok im going to be kind of short since i barely write any reviews
i was honestly going to see IM only cuz lately im not feeling trance and honestly i feel like a lot of it is commercial bs but JESUS MURPHY i was so wrong

ok Infected mushroom set of course not comparable to what they played last time at KH and how they killed the crowd
this time it was israelis jumping around and steepiung on everybody and hitting everybody in the faces. Of course last time at KH they were jumping around too but KH had shitload of space to dance so it was no problem. Infected mushroom was pretty good but not as good as i wanted them to be..they didnt impress me that much and i was expecting so much more because for most part i came just to see them but they were still good 7/10

max graham, didnt listen to it much but i heard some parts and the set sounded ok. no rating

AVB, holy shittt son i honestly thought trance was dead i dont know why but after seeing pvd, tiesto, G&D, rank1, ferry shitload of times it didnt impress me one bit but what i saw today fuck me in the goat ass that was one of the best trance events i attended..not only he played amazing tracks ONE after the other but he also played the stuff that was actually thinking in my head for him to play
i hate (hated) trance before coming today since im more into house now but omg now im starting to get my trance feeling back again after seeing this
everybody was dancing nonstop from start to the end of his set and everybody was into it. WOW AVB TRANCEGOD if i could vote on djmag right now id vote for AVB #1 dj this year
ARMIN VS MIKE track of the night! FUCK i was dieing
12/10
you fucken rock

holly fuck im dead. i cant walk...but i thought i might as well just write my review before i go to bed.

got there at around 10:45 and just as i was about to get to the front of the line i realised that i had left my ticke at home(now how clever is that). luckily i ran into RJ who gave me a ride to my place so i could get the ticket. well got back to the guv at just after 11am, met some TA's on the patio...then hit the dance floor,

kenneth tomas - didnt catch much of his set but the bit that i did hear sounded cool, we should get this guy back here again sometime.

infected mushrooms set....i couldnt fully enjoy it coz i couldnt find a spot on the dance floor, it was just too fuckin crowded and people were walking all over the place. so it was impossible to get a good rythym going. the set it self was really good, infected mushroom's psy/goa style is insane. too bad they couldnt have played for longer. not as good as when i saw them montreal though.

violin act - i nearly forgot about this, who was that anyway? that was amazing, just absolutly incredible

max graham - i think they should have put him before infected mushroom coz he kind of slowed things down for a while. i just found his set good, not excellent but good.

armin van buuren - WOW!! i fuckin loved the set, he had the crowd going wild most of the time, and that closing mix that he did was awesome. i had never seen armin till tonight and i was impressed, one of the best sets i have heard this year. armin is such a fun dj to watch spinning, he gets soo into it. wont miss him the next time he comes for sure. any body know the mix of the nirvana smells like teen spirit that he played.

mark oliver - for those of you that left early all i can say is; your loss. i stayed to the very end and mark killed the dance floor with some old trance and tech-house classics. it was just amazing, what a way to end off the night with some classics, it had me dancing like crazy even though i was dead from the previous sets. it was nice closing the night off ripping up the dance floor with all the TA's at the front. i told mark he was a god and he gave me a hug....what a guy!

guvernment - same old bullshit, too crowded hard to find space to dance, eventually found some at the front near the stage. assholes walking throught the crowd bumping you. bouncers bieng dicks.
but i do have to say for last night, the energy was amazing, better than i have ever seen it at the guv, there were hands in the air and everyone was goind nuts. that was fun.

verdict--i give the night a 8.5/10..........so it was a damn night, too bad to those that missed it.

im soo fuckin dead now, im gonna take a shower and head to bed. it was nice to meet all you TA's there....too many to name them all....mainly coz i forgot alot of names...lol...so i dont want to fuck it up. thanks to all those that came and said hi.

i never cared about how many people is in the guv till this saturday, and i knew what will happen last night.

THAT is not fun, just a waste on money, you cannot move or talk or dance or pretty much anything, and if im gonna spend night JUST listening to music (unable to bust a move-FUCK THAT SHIT !)ill stay home, smoke a blunt, turn something good on, and chill or jump or whatever, better than being surrounded with a sea of people (cannot bust a move, once again FUCK THAT).

but i had lots of fun last night, orange room was not overcrowded, lotsa room for anything, djs spinnin from what i remember mostly old school, lotsa nice people (everybody was smiling, i swear to god, it was nice just to be in that room, vibe gets 18 thumbs up), all in all great time. then, orange room was closed.

went to guv, it cleared a little, and armin was like always - sick, SICK, only trance for me is armin. i cant belive that there are people worshiping that horce-faced, "no i didnt do drugs...."crying-in-front-of-the-thousands-and-thousands-people-cause-"i felt something" crybaby, (ADMIT IT, YOU WERE HIGH), tiesto. im not gonna try to pretend to know everything so im not gonna tell you "you should listen to armin, hes better than tiesto", but anybody who has some taste can see that tiesto's music is a bunch of crap compared to armins SICK SHIT. i caught his last 3 songs, and maybe im wrong but somehow those songs sounded really evil and dirty and "girls going bananas, shaking like there is no tomorrow", and nasty. evil armin ???? yeah, NICE !!!! always a pleasure to listen to him, always! anyways....

hehehe, i have no idea wtf, but i got really upset writing this shit above, i dont know why but i hate tiesto a lot.

but, in between, i went to see that meeting on the patio, couldnt reckognize anybody so i went back inside, came back again for a smoke and met some of you (ok, im really trying to remember everybody so if i forgot SORRY, sometimes i forget things )maxtuh(i hope that im not wrong??), the vrk, nycionxy, tha broad, and rabbitjoker (dude, you're short, i tought that u're big ), and somebody else but i cant remeber. had a really nice conversation with first three (hey guys, when i said ill be back with them i swear to god we came to guv and when they saw what is going on they were like "miki fuck this, lets go back to orange room" and honestly there was no fucking chance to find u guys in that pandemonium, let alone us 7 to find a spot next to u, there is always next time ). really nice guys, im really glad that i met you. and tha broad, of course, nice meeting u again

where was i ???

all in all good night.

i think thats it from me, if i remeber anything else ILL WRITE AGAIN.

yeah, if you encounter some grammar or speling errors, please dont pay any attention to them, if you can understand it it should be enough, right? and PLEASE, dont chalk shit, i hate chalk and chalking.

so, now ill try to sleep at least 20 hours.

hope to see ya soon, and to meet some new people, nice people.

SANDER FOR PRESIDENT !

p.s. other day i posted about sanders mix, miami 2004 or something like that, i HIGHLY reccomend it to you all, sander is sick bastard, and this mix is his masterpiece (at least for me, i didnt listen to anything else since i got this cd, and more that i listen to it, MORE I LIKE IT - "...i lost control"- when that part comes on i get goosebumps, and i dont get goosebumps from songs, IT IS that good.

sorry about all the fucks and shits, i know its not nice but im really too tired to read and correct all this, and if i know myself (i hope that i do) there might be lots of bad words

thats my REWIEV

Wow what a night!!! The people (although I was closer to some people then others and sometimes I found myself in situations where one would pay money to be where I was :-P Due to the crowding) I met so many peole and totally loved the vibes I was getting. I heard the sweetest set by Infected MY god they are mad crazy :-))) And they sure do give it all to us eh!!! But I could tell from the crowd we were giving it back just as hard!!!! I got to meet Josh Gabirel What a treat that was ( Happy Columbus day Josh if you read this :-)) ) Armin well where do I start I hit the middle of the dance floor and didnt move untill MO came on and I hit the stage for a bit. As usuall Armin did not disappoint, kept me moving full speed till he laid his last track. And MO ( dont forget the pumkin pie) gotta love the classics, very nice ending to a wonderfull night. I hope all my fellow Caniadians had/has a wonderfull Thanksgiving. And to our American friends Happy Columbus Day !!!!!!

Andie

oops I almost forgot.... That Violin solo was freaking amazing, and we cant forget about the Spaceman!!! Remember the spaceman?????
