Whats the best way of telling how much bass certain headphones have before you buy them. Other than testing them out...

Yeah I wish I'd done that...my head phones have no fuckin bass. Pretty crappy to listen to EDM with. Realized today in my 7 hour drive from MTL to NYC

Get a Techincs RP-DH1200 headphones. You won't need to test the bass out before you try them. MAN DO THEY KICK! worth every penny! good for long trips... they are so loud that you don't actually have to put them over your ears

I'm guessing there's no way to tell except from reviews. My Sennheiser HD-280s seem to do a great job. Remember, it's about the source of the music too... and how much power that source puts out. Using hi-fi headphones with an iPod or discman or something won't sound great. If your computer has a good soundcard, it's a pretty good source for music, though.

I got a cheap logitech behind-the-ear headset and it plays killer bass. Looks can be deceiving.

sennheiser HD 497 here, there was "special for bass" or something on the box when I bought it.

I already had HD 25 SP Headphones from Sennheiser for DJ mixing and I find them quite good too for producing but I prefer listening to my BM5A monitors!

HD25 have a HUUUUGE amount of bass... they are also amazing at keeping out outside sound.. well worth the money.

Well.. I'm not sure if you're asking this for listening or producing purposes. but if for producing, I highly recommend Sony MDR-7506s. I produce exclusivly on these and they've never let me down. I would recommend these over any pair of entry-level studio monitors.

I'd probably say the opposite; better for listening than producing.

I own a pair of Sony MDRs, and they warp the sound so badly; Sony headphones are the worst on the market, IMHO. I usually listen to a mix with them as my final phase to mix the frequencies for low-quality speaker systems. The Sony's definitely distort the bass, alot.

However, I suggest a good pair of Stanton's... DJ3Ks are really nice.

But when it comes down to it, the monitors are king.

Pioneer HDJ's put out a lot of bass.
