I'd probably say the opposite; better for listening than producing.
I own a pair of Sony MDRs, and they warp the sound so badly; Sony headphones are the worst on the market, IMHO. I usually listen to a mix with them as my final phase to mix the frequencies for low-quality speaker systems. The Sony's definitely distort the bass, alot.
However, I suggest a good pair of Stanton's... DJ3Ks are really nice.
But when it comes down to it, the monitors are king.
