Trance and Techno Definitions

Techno is a very minimal genre, lacking melody, and trance is an epic (extreme opposite of minimal) genre made up of mostly melody (as well as some other things), with a slight techno beat underneath to carry the sound to the dancefloor.

The above is a description that I stumbled upon on a random website.

Do you agree/disagree?

discuss.

I dont really care for techno too much (then again Chris Liebing really showed me the power of techno last week) but id gladly agree with the def of trance, while im sure some will go ahead and bash it while supporting how techno is very vast...

Dude, i think this topic may have been covered in great depth a few times before

Please use the button

*EDIT* I'm a n00b when it comes to techno, but i have been led to believe that techno contains a greater emphasis on percussion.

the difference is that trance sounds more like opera, whilst techno leans towards acid country.

not all trance has big build ups and there are lots of techno tracks with some massive fucking build ups. they usually just dont have some dumb bitch singing at some insane octave about some long lost love in the clouds made out of tears that seem to burn with desire and float in the wind and listen to the sound of goodbye.

btw, its louder than any drum beat.

anyway, seriously, you CAN'T put different types of music into certain catagories Just because it has build up/doesn't.

simple isnt it
