are dj's cover bands?

do you think dj's are like cover bands, in that, they get rich off other people's material?

discuss =)

absolutely. is also why i wonder why DJs get so much flak for playing similar tunes to each other or what they were playing 6 months ago- cover bands the world over play the same tunes, no matter where you are, and people still go off and have a good time.

however, id say its harder being a DJ in that playing to crowds is a lot more difficult. no lil rest between tunes, planned setlist etc. not that im criticising cover bands either, got a few good friends that play in them (and let me sing when im lucky )

at the end of the day, does it matter? fvcked if i wanna wait for *insert DJ name here* to tour my state so i get to hear tunes i like. im just as happy to see begic as i am nu-nrg if theyre both playing music i get into

Yes, but if you look @ most of the succesful dj's, they produce their own music as well.

in my opinion DJs can do so much more than a cover band. if a track sucks like soups no matter how brilliant the singer/guitarist is the track will still sucks.

a brilliant DJ however can do so much more with a track. layering it up, cut it up, drop acapella over the top, etc.

to produce a set that 'progresses' using these tracks is more harder job than a cover band doing their best rendition of other's songs/tracks.

DJs are gods I tell you, GODS!

We should all bow down on the dancefloor and worship their ability to place a plastic disc in the correct horizontal position on a rotating tabletop such that it makes a musical sound.

[sorry, I'm just a little sensitive, Tiesto is coming to Toronto at the end of June, which means all the posers with 5 posts are gonna be swarming our board with threads worshipping his mastery of the crossfader and every minor detail of his life. So I will be in here more often over the coming weeks to prevent the flaming of the e-tarded 'tiesto is god' fans]

*EDIT* As an example to the insuing tiesto madness, it's june 2, he's coming on june 30th, yet we already have 2 ticket threads, a thread about what clothing he's gonna wear, a poll about if he should be spinning in the booth or on a stage, and an event thread.

yeah somewhat true.

however cover bands still need to re-create the talent of the bands by learning how to play and perform the songs. they are still creating the music on stage (altho not original material)

however, DJs just play a record, they are no re-creating that song, just re-playing it. but they do need to mix

to make things identical, a DJ would need to play a LIVE set of someones elses music, and which DJs in australia could do that?? not many

i wouldve thought that EQ work would be similar to that of the pro roadies you see at concerts working their mixers.
