DJ Freaq - Hardtrek (Rough Mix #8)

For all you who love stereotypical "remixes" this is for you.

I give you Hard Trek.

If anyone is nerdy enough (I'm guessing a lot on this board) to have heard that classic star trek battle music from "Amok Time" with crazy horny spock.

This is for you as well.

DJ Freaq - Hard Trek
192kbps, 44.1kHz, 5.7 mb, 4:12

This is still very much a work in progress. I seriously doubt this will be the last version or is close to what the final version is sounding like. Those who follow my work (IE not most of you, mainly just Nou) I have dropped Reason as a my primary producing program.

Right now I am using ACID 5.0 Pro, with Reason 3.0 rewired into it. The effect is wonderful, I am able to use mastering VSTs, better effects, better "instruments" (yay for vst cheese), more automation, easy dropping in of samples, looping as well as still being able to call on Rex files and other Reason RFLs (which you can not decompress unfortunately).

If anything, enjoy the track for it's punchyness and sound quality (so far, as I said before, I'm not done yet.)

Thanks for anyone, who downloads, listens, and then ACTUALLY reviews, I would do the same for you (Recently I've been a bum on the producers forum, but whenever I post a track, I comment on others like crazy

I'm not into Star Trek at all, however i dug your Track. I like the Hard Trance basslines a lot! Very nice. The remix of the theme music you did is really cool too, imo.
cheers,
-Alex

Thanks, I was all over star trek as a kid, I even learned how to raise one eyebrow like mr. spock, this is kind of a tribute to my childhood.

Live long and prosper bitches

this one is a damn blast
Sounds almost like a hybrid of dark psy with hardcore. Do you know any similar artists I could check out? Cause I'm really really digging this!
Awesome use of the sample.
If this track doesn't kick one's butt, I don't know what else does...

lol I love the sample that starts at 1.36.
It's very short! Make it longer!!

I had fun with this track. Can't fault it for now & cant wait to hear the full complete version.

ummm, this track is ok
dont see anything spectacular here
i think i hear a sample from q2, however i might be wrong
baseline is ok

i'd give this track 6/10
which means that its releasable but again, nothing that made me jump

good compression, dynamics and overall eq'ing
i can go ahead and play it loud, wouldnt clip or anything, so thats a good thing

keep up good work m8

If I don't know what a Q2 is I'm probably not using it. Educate me.

Yea the dynamics is well done, so far, not perfect yet.

This is still in it's semi-infancy. I agree, it drags towards the middle of the track. Which is no good. I'm working on it.

Thanks for your input

YAY.

LoL... good advice.

OK, anything with a sample of horny spock deserves a listen as far as I'm concerned. Here we go...

Interesting panning on the snare at the start. The bass and kick are killer... good work on them. The arrangement of the percs feels kinda old school though. I dont listen to a huge ammount of stuff like this though, so maybe its part of the style your going for. I'd say the kick could do with some more rolling here and there

Some nice dark cheese at about 0.30

3.24.. ah yes, can hear the trek sample in it. No horny spock though

That main wha-wha sound gets a bit repeditive after a while. Its ripe for being fucked around with some filters or a gate effect or something. Not sure if thats what your going for though with this one.

This track feels like a sledgehammer to the head or a laser to the scrotum or something. Still its quite listenable. Would this classify as hardstyle?

you seem to be not nerdy enough :P ...I suppose he refers to the PC game Quake 2 ... I dont think I heard something from that game tho.

agreed, it needs more spice, I might get a screaming horny spock, but I didn't use any samples from quake 2...

I'm working on that bass, I think it wil be even more killer with some more variety.

The middle is still dragging along and pissing the fuck out of me , and the end isn't even finished yet. I'm going to change up the melody at the end of that main build and add maybe a higher distored octave of that main synth harmonizing or something... and bring back in the original sample

The panning on those snares is too severe at the rate they are playing initially, it frustrates, I'm toneing that down. But maybe during some snarerolls i'll pan the shit out of them.

Yea, the arrangement of those hi-hats are VERY old school sounding "UNchi!!" I was using it as a temporary filler. It's going to change. I'm going to make instead of those hihats being 1/4 notes i'm going to pick the pace up and stagger them a bit.

Hmmm. Expect an update later tonight. (PST) Going to get a bunch of stuff updated on this track.

Thank you all for your input.
