bass kicks.. sounds in logic

I have a question regarding layering sounds on top of each other. When I have a kick, it sounds great. When I play the bass, it sounds great too. When I put the two together, it sounds not as good as intended.. how can I make these two sounds corrospond with one another? THANKS!

Try adjusting the decay on them so they cut sooner.

It could be clashing harmonics in the hi- and hi-mid-freq ranges. Try putting high cut on one or both of them.

Also, it could be that the bass and drums just don't co-operate... what synths/samplers are you using? I know that when I was working on my electronic symphony, the bell VSTi I was using was acting up when I put reverb on a percussive VSTi. VSTis do that sometimes

if you have interference between the bass and kick, you can either eq some frequencies or apply side-chaining compressor. I tend to avoid sequencing bass on my kicks tho.

Compress. Everything. Always. Because.

Ignore the stuff about side chaining unless you're looking for the Eric Prydz tech-house sound.

Eq helps too. It depends on the specific kick and bass - usually it's good to eq the kick down around 250-300 Hz and up around 50-100 Hz, and do the opposite for the bass. Sometimes it's the other way around.

Try running a spectrum analyzer on both the kick and bass. If they're concentrated in the exact same ranges, you'll probably need to change one of them.

yes as posted above the trick is in the eq! the only way to fix it is try different eq combinations in the specific freqs of kick and bass and hear it over an over again until you're 100% satisfy.

if gets complicated here's a tip:

save a copy of each combination that you liked. then listen all and just keep 3 or 4 versions STOP and go back home. Next day listen it again, maybe you will notice something that you didn't before.
