Pay no attention to IMDB's ratings, They aren't acurate, The movie has goten so many positive reviews at the Rotten Tomatoes site here.

politically, the movie is not standing well with people who are analyzing the "lesson" of the movie, something that promotes the ideas of scientology until the very end of the movie before the credits where there is some scietology quote.

but for someone looking for a good time and a hot pants actor, i hear its DAMN good

I don't think the movie in any way is promoting scientology, Keep in mind, This was a 100 year old story, but set in the modern times, I might see the movie tomorrow, And I hear the movie follows more closely to the book instead of the 1953 version, though I heard that the movie has homages to the 1939 radio play as well as the 1953 movie, In fact, Two of the original stars from the 1953 version make cameos in this one.

i'd go and see it if i had the money
but i wont go in with all this scientology contraversy everyone had. i just want to see a good movie and i'll judge it after i see it

If there was anyone who would have weaved scientology in this movie, it would have been Tom Cruise. Tom Cruise is very much obsessed (brain washed) with/by Scientology. I didn't see scientology references in this movie, as I have been reading about Scientology, not so much as an interest (not planning to join the "Church of Scientology") but to see how they work and how they have harmed people and even attributed to the deaths of many (either from suicide, poor conditions/manual labor, emotional/psychological strain as well as possible murder.)

I really enjoyed the movie, and if you saw the original, you can see that many of the same scenes and ideas were found in this movie, he even tried basing some of the ideas from the book as well. The movie definitely played homage to many other classic sci-fi movies as well, like Day The Earth Stood Still, with everything coming to a halt (even time). I've always been a fan of Spielberg, and I don't think he has any interest in Scientology (he is Jewish) other than his friendship with Tom Cruise. Even though they are good friends, I think Spielberg is smart enough not to fall for Tom Cruise in his recruitment efforts for his "religion", as he set up a tent with scientology stuff during the filming and even tried to give some of the set members a tour of a scientology facility.
