I love the free market system.

Nothing is fairer than the free market system that covers most of the globe. People end up with what they deserve.

The basic concept of a market is that it is the point where a buyer and seller meet to exchange goods. But it goes much further than that. If you are in a job earning $20,000 and your skills, experience, assertiveness and expertise are at a high level then it won't be long until you ask for a promotion, get a better job offer, and then start earning $30,000. If on the other hand you are in a job being paid $30,000 and the roles and responsibilities are beyond you then you will be sacked and go to a job earning $20,000. The market gives what you deserve every time. If you deserve to earn $500,000 a year you will, and if you deserve to earn $0, you will do that also. The best thing about a market is that it all comes down to you, the sacrifices you make, the amount you invest in yourself, making the most of your opportunities, its such a fair system.

If you are brought up in a wealthy family and your skills are poor, you don't bother developing a work ethic, and you have little control then it won't be long until your fortune is gone, whereas on the other hand you are brought up in the slums and you have ambition, take risks, and have a fighting spirit you will earn your own fortune.

If you are dating a hot chick and she is too good for you, whether thats because of your social skills, your personal self-esteem, the management of your emotions, your people skills, your relationships techniques for keeping people interested in you, your looks, it won't be long until you are dumped or cheated on, then you will begin to date someone less attractive. If on the other hand you are dating someone that you are better than overall, this may be because you have improved yourself during the relationship and they didn't then you will dump them and you will go on to date someone better. If you ex chooses to get depressed and make little effort to improve themselves then they will date someone much less in social status or attractiveness, and if they choose to work on themselves and make an effort to improve their standing in the dating scene then the negative effects won't be so bad and they may go on to higher levels than you.

The market is such an excellent system, nothing is fairer. It dictates the clothes we wear, the amount we earn, the people we date, the friends we have, the activities we engage in, and lots more.

The market also plays a strong part in allocating resources, such as time. So if you desire to have a great family life then you will choose to give up time making money, whereas if being rich is your thing you will more than likely have poor personal relationships. If you are great at time management then you make strike a strong balance, but thats up to the market.

I have long held that if you took everyone in the world and took all their possesions away and gave them all $500 90% of the people who are currently rich would once again be rich in 10 years. Conversly 90% of the people who are currently poor would be equally poor in 10 years. Its all a matter of work ethic and choices. Do you chose to work 35 hours a week or 45? do you save your money or spend it in lottery tickets? Its these sorts of differences that are the real class divide.

well that would depend on how big your family fortune is. it'd be awfully hard to squander say 56 billion dollars (sure it's doable but it's still pretty damn hard, you'd have to try to lose an amount like this.)

i'm undergoing the point in my professional life where i'm about turn from a mid-class worker to a "up there" career.
I've worked at groceries and drug stores as a cashier for about two years and always found myself in dire need for money. I couldn't afford reliable cars, so my money went into that. i needed financial aid for school. no chance in hell could i afford a relationship. I was a penny pincher and it was STRESSFUL living on a week to week paycheck. I didn't even want to have benefits because i needed the money. But this just doesn't happen to me? it happens to everyone who i've known. We work, we save and we sparingly spend. We didn't want to learn to save, we were FORCED to save. Give us a million dollars and i think most of us would go erratic with the gift of money, and spend it all. maybe i'd do the same.
but now i'm in a new lifestyle having gotten a contracted job for a sofware development company. i'm only 19 and here i am signing forms after forms of paperwork giving me a ton of money and livings/transportation support. My parents are back in diego and i'm here in menifee, CA in some neighborhood where u can't play your music with the windows down. trying to stay like the poor man i used to be, i am trying to save. i don't know if i can't hold it off because when you see money, u just wanna spend it. my ethics say to save, my longings say too spend

So yea, I was spoiled as a kid (add in a divorce and thats x10000 spoilage), horribly, I still am to some extent, I have never had to work for anything in my life. Everything is handed to me. While my friends are working weekends I am lounging about at my beach place...

My parents are getting sort of sick of it though... as well as I, but the thing is I have no work ethic at all, no motivation... I did nothing in highschool, didnt graduate and now I am out of school and pretty much just living off my parents.

I really didnt read anything else in this thread, just saw that one paragraph and had to comment.

I do have ambition to make my own "fortune" though, how I don't quite know, not to sound egotistical but I am pretty freaking smart and alot of my good friends show open disapointment in me not doing something productive.

I strongly recommend reading this book:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...263065?v=glance

It changed my life.

Every word is absolute gold.

When we are born it is pretty much left to us to figure out what to do, and how to do it, and often you can be busy without actually achieving anything. Well, this book is like a guide to life and I wish I had got it a few years ago because all of a sudden I'm doing so much more, and its becoming so much easier to do the stuff I want to do.

This will be the best money anybody in the world will ever spend on themselves...
