M-Audio BX5 monitors, any good?

I am looking for a pair of active monitors for mixing. I need a small footprint.
I am considering the M-Audio BX5 but I am a bit sceptical about their Bass response because of the 5 inch driver.
Are these any good, or is there something better out there?

i think the M-audios sound pretty good for booth monitors. the rokit series by KRK just isnt loud enough for a booth application. guitar center just dropped the m audio BX8s to $299 down from $499. those things pound pretty well.

Are you sure about the $299?
I just checked their website and they only list the BX5 for $299. They do not mention the BX8. Is it only available at their retail shops?

I thought the Rockits were the loudest ofthe bunch, to be honest. The 8s are the ones I picked up and anything smaller may not be enough. I started with the Alesis M1s. They didnt come close to be loud enough, and the ywere a 6.

I went back to Guitar Center and tested all of the monitors in the $500 range and the Rockits were the loudest and cleanest I heard there.

i am 100% sure. i dont know if it will be on musiciansfriend.com, but i work at guitar center and was gonna pick up a pair for myself since they are selling them below cost.

as for the rokits. if you think the rokits are louder and cleaner than the maudios. you need to check that again. yes the rokits have a flatter response, but the BX8s are probably 50% louder than the rp8s. and they are alot cleaner in the highs and lows than the rokits.

Can you tell me more about what you think of the Rokit 5's? I'll be looking for a nice clear monitor that isn't too bass heavy (i have thin non-concrete apartment walls). I'd still like them to be reasonably loud/crisp when I do turn them up. I don't think our audio stores out here carry the rokits... so I've never actually heard them.

Go to a store and compare them, you'll hear it for yourself, the M-Audio's aren't that great. I looked at the BX5 and BX8 and they both stunk compared to other brands they had in the store. The BX8 were outdone by little V1's.

Just got the BX5's and they are a bit lacking in the low end. I don't mind that at all, however, as I don't really care for uber bass anyways. They sound nice and crisp, and that's straight out of the box, I can't wait to hear what they sound like when they get broken in. $200 at Guitar Center.
