change tempo of sample without timestretching

Is there anything i could stick a sample (or multiple samples would be awesome) in and change the tempo to what i want it as, its really bugging me with all these HZ and stuff i just want to change the damn tempo and not time stretch it, i use Cubase and the only option to change it is in HZ i dont understand how this relates to tempo.

thanks

In cubase just use the timestretch tool. Click on arrow button and go down to "sizing applies timestretch". It's really simple, and you don't have to bother with Hz or anything.

If I have understood you correctly, you're looking for a loop-splitter. Propellerheads Re-Cycle is good.

I just want something that i can stick a sample in and it will whip it up to a given tempo plus pitch it up to, aka not timestretching

Also not knowing the original tempo would be good to

Re-Cycle does all that. You just need to know the amount of bars in the loop. just need to count it.

That's called resampling. All you have to do in Cubase is change the timestretching algorithm to "resample" and you can chipmunk the beat to your heart's content.

It would probably sound better, though, to do a proper time stretch and then a proper pitch shift.

Sounds like you're looking for a magic wand here. Ableton Live is good at sync'ing various loops and grooves to the same tempo, but in terms of making a loop a certain tempo without knowing the original tempo, there's no magical utility to do that for you.

The only way to do what you're asking and do it without sounding like absolute crap is to chop up the loop in Cubase or Recycle and arrange it to a specific tempo, using timestretching/delay/reverb to fill in the gaps if you need to, then pitch shift to whatever sounds right. Whichever app you use, there's no lazy way out of this, it's going to involve some work on your part.

A good sampler will also help a lot if you don't want to be constantly dealing with raw audio clips. Do you have one, either hardware or software?

I was thinking more along the lines of EXS24/Kontakt/HALion, etc. Most of these can automatically cut loops based on audio thresholds and map them to keys for you (EX will actually auto-map them to ranges and do the resampling/pitch-shifting for you, it's beautiful). So you can see why this would be helpful in your case, you can just play keys and use MIDI to control the loops. I use it all the time for loops that come in CDDA or WAV format, never really have to worry about the tempo as long as it's within a reasonable range of the target (don't bother trying if it's more than around 5-6 bpm off, otherwise it'll sound terrible).

I'm not altogether familiar with Battery. I plan to have a look and possibly use it for drums, but I don't believe it would really qualify as a "sampler" per se, at least not in the sense that I'm talking about here.
