they make some items that have only a 6 month life span... liek those shitty folding chairs... and they use a lot of materials,, that havent been recycles ,, nor can they be recycled after they break in the near future.

but,, i do have ikea crap... some stuff is good, plus they have a lot of turquoise stuff.

but luckily my boyfriend is in the industrial design program at my school and can make good quality furniture...

he hates ikea,, and wont let me go there... but i mean some of the lamps and like dinnerware and bathroom stuff is good,, but he doesnt agree with giving his money to a company that is as horrible to the environment as it is...

which i can agree with... but still,, cheap is cheap,, but you get what you pay for.

..hi! u're Tara's Sis right?? I'm sonny.. I used to work for/@ IKEA for quite a few years... and here's their "Social/Environmental Code"

Three cornerstones of IKEA environmental work
• Cost consciousness and resource efficiency.
We use fewer raw materials and create less waste and discharge.
• The extensive use of wood in our products.
Wood is a recyclable, biodegradable and renewable material – an excellent material to use from an environmental point of view.
• Training co-workers and engaging them in environmental issues.

Resource efficiency
IKEA insists on minimising costs. That means we have to work economically with raw material, energy and other resources. As a consequence, we often reduce waste and discharges. Being economical when selecting raw material is second nature for a product developer at IKEA. Since we develop products ourselves – often in close co-operation with suppliers – we can monitor all aspects of a product’s life, from choice of raw material through production and distribution. When possible, leftover material from one product is used in the manufacture of another product.

Forestry
IKEA does not accept timber, veneer, plywood or layer-glued wood from intact natural forests or from forests with a clearly defined high conservation value. Our long-term goal is to source all wood in the IKEA range from verified, well-managed forests that have been certified according to a forest management standard recognised by IKEA.
Wood is renewable, recyclable and biodegradable, so it’s a good material from an environmental point of view, provided that it originates from well-managed forests.

so they actually do their best to promote the 3 R's..not only within their stores but help inform employees & customers alike about saving the environment. They even have baskets/bins @ the entrances where u can return old/used up lightbulbs which then get recycled.

_P.s. Oh yeah... it's true, the quality isn't great. But u're right... it does look good!

well that is really great to hear,, i didnt want to believe it ( the horrible for the environment thing)

but,, i will definitley let my bf read that!

because i love going to ikea they have a lot of great products.

i dont think really very many companies are 100% environmentally friendly... but... at least they are trying right?

drew ( my bf) has done a lot of research etc on a lot of companies like ikea,, and dupont ( plastics) and he can probably tell you things about ikea that they dont want you to know or tell you when you work there.

but i mean i dont think they are as bad as he thinks.
