Lack of Hard Dance

I feel the need to whinge about the lack of hard dance in Melbourne in particualr the big festivals.

The lineup for godskitchen is good with some really talented artists but where is the hard dance, its the same with Godskitchen (yes Ed Real and Andy Farley were there but i'm talking about superstar dj's) Elctronic festival got it right earlier this year with proteus and Kai Tracid, but why do GK and TT never have big name hard dance dj's i.e. cosmic gate, dumonde (yes retired now but in the past), hennes and cold, dj scott project, lab 4, phil reynolds, the tidy boys, rob tissera, billy bunter, jon doe, dj spoke, K90 etc. pharamcy parties are good but they[re nothing like the big raves.

What about the biggest superstar hard dance dj in the world Yoji Biomehanika? This guys headlines dance valley, trance energy, senastion black, godskitchen global gathering all the biggest raves in the world, yet when he comes to australia he only plays in hard kandy to a couple of hundred people, no offence to hard kandy but yoji in rod laver arena at the end of the night would tear the place up.

Even Sydney has transmission and they are massive and we in melbourne have nothing that size.

I think thats all i wanted to say.

P.S. if anyone knows where i cand download yoji's EM i would be much appreciated and any of his other sets to, cheers.

You know what. Fuck you.

I resent being put in the same category as Soups.

i have put up with 4 years of hard dance so that i could one day see a lineup like the one at godskitchen.

i do agree though, the whole melbourne hard trance/dance scene has dropped off a hell of a lot in recent times. im not complaining tho', in fact i love it.

It may have dropped off to an extent but its not as if the "fluffy" trance scene (incorporating melodic, 'uplifting', progressive, etc) has exactly taken off or grown at all...

Their biggest nights still only include stuff like 5AM at Room and Trancsend at Altitude, which are both pretty small nights when compared to how big HK, Bassstation, Bubble are or have been in the past.

Personally I love seeing acts such as Above & Beyond and Gabriel & Dresden given the main stage at events like GK, but variety is the spice of life and i would equally enjoy a set from the likes of Yoji.

Not complaining about the line up, i reckon its great, but i am surprised by it. God's normally does produce a hard trancer in its line up normally without fail

on a side note - if this event is in one of the mian arenas does that mean the walk ways around the stadium are going to be turned into makeshift stages just like when sanchez played before tiesto a few NYE's ago. If so i hope its a no name dj playing there because that sort of set up was an insult

Taubs, I think you'll find the hard dance scene world wide to be falling off quite alot.

The problem with the crowd it attracts (i realize i am generalizing)is that it's typically the "lets get extremely fucked up" crowd. You'll also find they generally get in to it young, go way to hard, week in week out, and fry themselves within 12 months to two years.
Because of this, the hard scene can only last so long.

I think it's great we are finally catching up with the rest of the world (musically) with the line up we have for this year at GK.

I had a friend here not long ago from over seas laughing that we still had a "hard dance" scene here at all. So enjoy whats left while it lasts i guess.

Don't get me wrong, I like my share of the harder stuff but TT and GK have done some of the harder style djs over the last 2 years:
BK and Anne Savage @ GK '04
Fergie @ TT '04
Phil Reynolds, Dumonde and Organ Donors @ Sunshine People '05
Cosmic Gate @ GK '03 (yes I know it was a while ago)

Personally I much prefer something like pharmacy for the harder stuff...
