Where to start?

Hi there,
I'm AniG on this forum lolz, I've decided to actually take up dj'ing production wise and put my producing to the side for abit.

i was wondering if anyone could help me out into how to actually get started with dj'ing, whether using software or buying actual equipment.

i just want to learn this now because i think it can help me with my trance production skills aswell.

any help would be appreciated.

Whats your budget m8 =), but it actually matters. do you think youll get bored with dj'ing? you should try out software first but this is like a GENERALS WARNING here, software has no way near the fun level as real equipment does. So you will have lots of fun dj'ing. Whats the budget, highest you can possibly go. And Vinyl or CD? or Both.

Theres millions of where do i start threads floating around but i wont be a dick and ill try to help you as much as i can.

depends what you are comfortable with.

do you like to have all of your equipment in front of you and touch with your hands, or do you like the interface on the computer and feel comfortable using programs like virtual dj or similar.

or you can go somewhat half and half wit ssl (serato scrath live) or final scracth. they are computer based programs, but you can add in your tt's and mixer and mix that way. as most people have said before on this forum, first see if you have a friend that is a dj. give it a try on his equipment see if you like it. if you're comfortable with. then you'll have to decide wheter or not you'll go analog (tt) or digital (cd players). browse this forum, tons of stuff you can learn by reading other posts.

try it out, because in the end it's the feel you get when you touch a tt, or a cd player and you mix that can tell you if you'll enjoy or be bored with this.

second as jupiterone said, look up the threads in this they're great debating about equipment chioce (pro's/cons)

hope this helps...good luck

If you are or have produced music you may want to take into consideration possibly going with cd decks if you purchase equipment. That way you will be able to burn your own stuff to cd and mix that. That would be a huge thing I would think about when it came time to decide between turntables and cd decks. Another thing I would like to say is hardware is alot different than software. You can sort of get the hang of it from software, but most mixing software out there beatmatches for you, compared to hardware, your going to have to do it on your own. I started on traktor dj studio, but ended up buying hardware like 3 months later. Hope this helps you out a little.

Rock On,

Mike
