TUBE BLASTS BRING DEATH AND CHAOS TO RUSH-HOUR LONDON

Explosions on the London underground have brought death and chaos to the capital this morning.
Several people are reported to have been killed or injured and the whole of the Tube network was shut down just before 9am, at the height of the rush hour.
There were also reports of three explosions on buses around London.
British Transport Police said power surges had caused explosions at Aldgate, Edgware Road, King's Cross, Old Street and Russell Square.

However, other unconfirmed reports said the scale of the explosions appeared more like a terrorist incident.
Scotland Yard confirmed there had been an explosion on a bus in Tavistock Place, near Russell Square, leaving the bus ripped apart. A spokesman said police were at the scene and attempting to determine what had happened.
Emergency services were called to London's Liverpool Street Station after reports of an explosion shortly before 9am.
Passengers were seen emerging from tunnels covered in soot an blood. Scotand Yard declared the incident a "major emergency."
Home Secretary Charles Clarke said there had been "terrible injuries" and the government were assessing the situation. He said the police had very well established procedures in place to deal with the emergency and urged people not to travel into or around the capital.
British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".
"There are walking wounded, but that is as much as we know at the moment," said the spokesman.
"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am.
"No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."

All london undergroud services have been suspended and all buses going to Zone 1 in london have also been suspended.
Let us hope that this is the end of this horrific incident, and let our thourghts go out to the people who have been injured and also to the people who will not be comming home tonight !!!

London's cam system might come in handy.
One bus's top has been reportedly blown "right off"
Obviously people are already talking about the connection the Olympics.
However, I think the connection is more obvious to the G8 summit which the UK is hosting. Security is no doubt overwhelmning in Scotland, so the terrorst as they do, attack the soft spot.

Yup - cellular networks also report difficulty in London.
Vondaphone has given prioritie to emergency service on its network leaving many people with busy signals.

As for al-Jazeera what are you talking about commentaries justifying this attack? I checked it and it says nothing of the sort
Anyway, latest from the BBC TV news (website is slower to add new developments) says an Islamist website (used by al-Qaida) has claimed responsibility saying it was for Iraq and Afghanistan and has warned Italy and Denmark to expect similar

Well the BBC site is working now, looks slightly wierd however on the homepage layout from its normal look.
The Al Jazeera website I am referring to is http://www.aljazeera.com/me.asp?service_ID=8876 not the english.aljazeera.net/HomePage one. In the commentary section under the story of the explosion you have readers responding saying they got what they deserved, etc, etc. That is expected however if history is any precedent. The site is slow as ever so takes a long time to load. Amazingly the commentaries have now been disabled until Saturday 11am. Wonder why.
