Dancing Dude Equi Nox - Waltz For Sunsets (I'm getting there now!)

Ok, Worked with this tune for the entire day, and now I think it's ready for examination. Am I getting close to "it" now?

Equi Nox - Waltz For Sunsets

The good news is I've found my style now. And now I got a rather silly question. Is this releaseable. Just wanna now how close I am and if I'm on the right track.

Please, tell me what you think.

Hey man! Just leavin' my 2 cents worth!
The percs seem a tad underdone...need more work especially on the EQing. Try adding some reverb (or different reverb) on that shaker. I really don't like that shaker.
Some odd synth selections in this one. The bass and strings...the honky tonk piano.. strange combo. Can't say they're terrible, just different together. Bassline and strings don't blend too well IMO.
In general, the song has a decent melody but it's kinda thin. A variation on that theme would really liven it up a bit, perhaps with another lead instrument layered in.
@ 3:26 that cymbal ride is very annoying.
As far as releasable...I would say no. It's hardly trance and its not danceable. Dunno how you would market it really. But it just lacks overall production skills: EQing, mastering, general mixing, musical development, etc.
Hope this isnt too harsh. Just stick with this for a bit. How many tracks have you done!? Maybe post a dozen or so more songs and THEN ask if we think it's releasable. These things take time and EXPERIENCE.

edit: I actually liked the re-entry into the song again at 6:19. I'd have that come in earlier cuz the song kinda drags from 4:00 on. Also, the title WALTZ for sunset is misleading...WALTZES are always in 3/4 time, while trance/dance is almost ALWAYS in 4/4 time. This song is also in 4/4 time, so it isnt technically a waltz at all!

Thanks for all that feedback and advice (and time), I'll get into it. Yes I love mixing things that way. The more different the better. It's "ma style".

The ride I have already heard is terrible, I lowered it and EQ'd it a bit now, and I think that did the trick. You might have a point on the re-entry to, that break is somewhat too long.

Thanks for answering my question on releasability, I mostly put it in there to stop myself from crawling up my own arse. I will keep at this production thing, don't you worry (or maybe do) ;P

Oh well, who has time for definitions ;D I think the name is intriguing ;P

I love critizism, it keeps you fresh in the morning. Thanks again. ;D

Yeah...dont think of it as criticism...think of it as tips from someone who is just as n00b at this stuff as you. We're both amateurs here mate!
But with practice and peer reviews we both get better!
Cheers!

- those percs don't really flow with the 4/4 kick too well imo
- the bass sounds nice actually, but you should try setting it an octave lower maybe
- that break around 2:40 needs some background tension building sfx, without them it just seems to go on for too long without getting anywhere
- your kick is a bit weak, work on mastering
- i like to hear all the variatons in melodies, etc., which would be put to greater use if you has structured and mastered the song better
