Evolution Midi Keyboard with Cubase, Need Help

Ok, im still newish to cubase. Only been using it probally about a year now. I have a old Evolution 361C keyboard. Now I can use it fine when im just pressing the keys, but the part I dont understand how to setup is the 16 knobs that I have. I use to use reason alot and it was simple in there, right click on what you want to use the knob on, check learn from midi, then twist the knob and your done. However its not that easy with cubase. I just cant figure out how to use the knobs on my keyboard for different vsts. I have been manually doing automation for the past year and I have now run into a problem where I need to use the knobs.

One of my friends was saying you have to remap the knobs or something? Thats all he heard and doesnt know how. If thats true, what is re mapping and how do I do that with this keyboard

Any help or any links would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone have any idea??? I know some people here have to use some kind of midi boards with the knobs. Oh I forgot to mention, on some of the vst's I use. When I turn the knob, it is already set for a specific thing. I just cant backtrack and see how that is lol.

I don't know much about cubase, hell I don't even have it, but I searched a bit and came across this step-by-step guide which might help you. Don't know if it will tho, but you can always try:

Just let us know if it helps .

Is that all you ever say on these forums? We know that you love FL, and we don't care. You don't even know what you're talking about half the time (Fruity Granulizer producing glitches à la Hybrid? Puh-leeze!). No offense, it's just pissing people off, especially those of us who started off in FL and *ahem* moved on because of its inherent limitations, like lack of delay compensation or proper eq. And it just plain sucks ass when trying to combine it with any hardware. It's a nice little program but try to keep in mind that not everybody is as enamoured with it as you are.

Anyway, to actually ANSWER the question:

1. As you know, Reason is a closed environment. Cubase is not. When using VSTs, the parameters you want to automate are in the VSTs, not the Host (Cubase). If there is a MIDI learn within the VST, you'll want to use that (all you have to do in the host is create a MIDI track for the VST and make sure it's active).

2. If the VST does not have MIDI learn, you have to find out the CC numbers that your keyboard is sending out over those knobs, then add a mapping for it in the VST. Read the manual for the keyboard if you don't know the CCs. It's good to know that information anyway - don't depend on MIDI learn, if you ever start investing in hardware then you won't have it to rely on.

3. If you want to automate parameters directly in Cubase, it is not going to be easy. Cubase supports some specific devices, but for the Evolution you'll probably have to use the Generic Remote. The online help explains it all - just look that term up. It's a pain in the ass to use - trust me, it's really really terrible, and you'll want to avoid it if at all possible. Try to do all your keyboard mappings directly through the VSTs.

4. Search button is your friend, I remember answering this question for someone else less than 2 weeks ago.

I tried searching but didnt come up with anything b/c I didnt know the right terms to put. Only problem I have now is I dont have anything with this keyboard no more. Its basically 4 years old and I must have lost the manual when moving. I doubt they have one online but ima check and also read that link you posted, thanks

Oh and thats cool you use fruity loops. I never liked it since I first tried it in 2001 and never tried it since. I switched over to reason, then to cubase. Cubase isint that hard after you play around with it long enough. I wouldnt change for anything now.
