Summer Restaurant Week 2005

Can anyone give me some recommendations on which restaurant to go to lunch to on Friday? I want it to be really great and don't want to just pick at random. Thanks...

Here's the link. Anyone ever been to any of these? I've been to a few but would like first-hand accounts of some places before picking Thanks!

uhh i made a thread about this a while back...

reommendations...

payard has good dessert, nothing special for dinner.

china grill is family style = thumbs up
mesa grill i like a lot, good southwest influenced food, food with some good kick.
brasserie i've been told not so good.
blue water grill is good, fusion-influenced seafood.
bolo is same owner/chef as mesa grill (bobby flay)
inagiku is ok... japanese food.
oscar's at the waldorf = t3h suck for lunch

don't do steakhouses... steak is steak i think and not worth the prices of restaurant week for that.
most of the time, i just end up ordering from the a la carte menu. the prix fixe menus are weak sometimes...the good thing about this, is that a lot of the restaurants have the offer thru labor day.

OK!

Whos down for China Grill and Blue Water Grill with me?

It could either be a friend thing, in which you have to pay... or it could be a date in which your money would not be accepted - of course with dates there are requirements.

my recommendations:

Vong = excellent french fusion cooking... this was the best french fusion cooking I ever had. usually i think that stuff is stupid crap but the review for this restaurant says "explosive flavors" and its the truth!
Gotham Bar & Grill = the highest rated restaurant in NYC, and for a good reason. They don't have a large selection but its just phenomenal stuff. i always return to this one every year and you will too.
Union Square Cafe = understated and definitely for foodies.
Mercer Kitchen = interesting restaurant - you are underground and if you get a good seat you can see up through glass and watch people walk over you. had some of the best duck there ive ever had
Aureole = haven't been there myself but I've heard great reviews. It's right near central park and the serendipity bakery so its probably good for a date...
Gramercy Tavern = you can smell the aroma down the block from this place and its unbelievably good. The food is just about orgasmic
Cafe Boulud = good luck getting in, but they are extending their menu till labor day so you can always go later this summer. one of NYC's most famous restaurants
Nobu = good luck even getting someone to answer the phone... model Gisele has her own personal number ot call when she wants to eat there and even that doesn't work sometimes. the place is super serious japanese food that is to die for. One of these days maybe I'll get a reservation....

Nobu is overrated... on any other day, this place isnt worth it... but for what it costs to eat there, youre paying $250 for 2... and leaving hungry.
