Vestax DM-01 Headphones Review

I bought these a while back and I must say that they are a superb set of headphones. By far, they are THE most comfortable headphones I have used. They beat the socks out of Sony's/Technics/Stantons and perhaps the Seinheiser's as well. As you can see from the picture there is a cushioning below the headband. I wore these headphones for 3 hours straight without taking them off.
In terms of sound quality, the bass reproduction is superb. The club where I play at is quite loud and without a monitor. The main PA speaker is right in front of the booth. I was a bit apprehensive at first that these may not be loud enough because of the lower SPL than most other headphones, but I was wrong. They worked perfectly well. The sound was clean and undistorted. These phones also isolate ambient noise extremely well because of their generous padding.
You may have noticed that these headphones have a considerably lower frequency range than the Sony's and Technic's that start from 5 Hz and go all the way upto 30 kHz. I do not believe that this is an issue because for practical purposes, most electronic music falls in the 15 - 20k range. Only the most discerning listener can spot frequencies about 23-24kHz.

I will update this later regarding their durability. I have had them for about a month(usage is moderate(club+home) and they are sturdy as rock. The material seems to be some type of ABS plastic. Therefore, I believe these are rigid but high-impact strength.

The price tag of these headphones is questionable. I was able to get a significant discount for these as the company I work for distributes Vestax in Thailand. Therefore, the retail price for me was about USD 100 which is VERY cheap considering the street prices for other headphones here.
You will probably need to check prices for your respective areas.

To conclude :

+

a) Superb comfort
b) Very good bass response
c) Considerable ambient noise rejection

-

a) No carrying pouch
b) Lack of information regarding specs(Power output/driver diameter etc.)

Overall rating : 9/10

Here are the specs:

TYPE : Airtight Dynamic
Cable : 3m (maximum)
WEIGHT : 350g (with out cable)
PLUG : Gild Stereo 2way Plug
FREQUENCY RANGE : 18 Hz - 22 kHz
SOUND PRESSURE LEVEL(SPL) : 96dB
INPEDANCE : 64 Ohms

More pics soon.
