NOT the Numark TTX's, I recently sold them and they were not very good turntables. One broke down after 6 months (shipped it back to get it fixed), the tonearms were flimsy and whole construction just seemed "cheap". I would say if your starting out look at the Stanton's, like the STR8-100s or the new T-80s, which both costs 249.99 or T-120, which costs 399.99. I would also look at "possibly" (and possibly because I have not had great luck with Numark) the Numark TT500, which costs $299.99 most places. Although I am not a fan of Numark, i've heard better reviews from users about them than the TTXs.
If you really want to save money, go the route I am going right now, get CDJs. Since you don't want to spend a huge amount and am not planning to do this professionally or at clubs, i'de say go for something like the Pioneer CDJ 200 or the Stanton C304 which both costs $399.99. Yeah they are a little more expensive than those vinyl turntables, but even if you get an inexpensive vinyl turntable like the ones I mentioned, you still have to buy vinyl records (unless you've been buying it for a long time) and buy cartridges and have to replace styluses once in a while and records cost a lot of money. Most records online or at record shops cost 6.99 to 10.99 (or even more for imports, plus shipping if you order online), so to me, downloading MP3s are a better bet. I spent over a thousand dollars these past two years on records, and I only have 140 of them. I could have had almost a thousand MP3s (and believe me I have huge hard drives) so CDJs, in my opinion, save you in the long run, esp if you are just doing this as a hobby.
