Set Intro

Hey guys,
Im looking for something to use as an intro to my sets. I was thinking along the lines of maybe a piece of classical, breakbeat ect. Or maybe a sample that i can loop and then beatmatch to??

Any suggestions Appreciated

Assuming you play trance, ambient tracks are usually good.

I remember a live set by LAB4 where they started with the theme from edward scissor hands... very atmospheric, went down a treat with the crowd

Quality Song. ^^

I would go with the Edward Scissorshands idea. I've been wanting to watch that movie for some time to listen to the music, to see if there is any potential there. Obviously LAB4 thought of it before me! Hehe.

But a lot of movies have some quality ambient sounds, it is just as profitable to listen to soundtrack samples as it is to check the record stores.

I like to use a sound from The Beatles - A Day in the Life, off my Sgt. Peppers LP. Usually I just lay the first beat down and go, intros get on my nerves.

What you should do is get on the mic, and yell "Yeah, uh uh, DJ Liam is IN THE HOUSE... uh uh"

I have a riduculous number of sample/spoken word lps and various other bizarre things... on a cd I will normally drop a few seconds of some random speech or something, echo that then hit play on the first record from the start.

Last one I did, I used a margaret thatcher (ex british prime minister for those young/foreign enough to not know who she is) speech I have on 12" and dropped that

Personally I think those type of intros are cheesy... I always just pick a track that I think has a nice start, doesn't come in banging but builds up pretty quick.

its not a whole intro- maybe like a whole or half of a sentence which then echos and fades out as the first track starts.
No big deal- besides, I mix house, not trance and it fits well with that.

Well actually i love a different intro, if ur playing a set longer then an hour, then i think something special for an intro is a really good way to start. I think (most) DJ's could have a lil more creativity in their intros rather then chucking the start of the record on and letting the first minute of beats hit the crowd.

Definately a personal thing, but something to set the mood or point the crowd in the direction of where ur set is going i think is the way to go
