shuttle launch...

who else here has some doubt as to whether the Discovery's next flight wont be a success?

i'm predicting that NASA over-compensated for what went wrong with Columbia's launch/re-entry, or possibly overlooks something to do with saftey measures for this launch and NASA looses another shuttle this week.

you know what NASA stands for, right?

Need

Another

Seven

Astronauts

You coward. You make a statement based on absolutely nothing, not really new to this board, and then of course your "joke". Really that was hillariousm, making fun of a tragedy that took the lives of brave scientists that wanted to do nothing more than better mankind. Just because you would never have the courage, or selflessness to do such an act doesn't mean you have a right to sit on your ass and make a joke on those that did. I live in Chicago too, I would love to meet up some time and discuss this further.

no sir, the real joke is that Bush can say were going to Mars at a time that NASA is in danger of mothballing their only means to put US astronauts in orbit, with nothing tangible coming from R&D to take its place.

and just because im sitting on my ass doenst make that less relavant.

oh c'mon. they've had hundreds of shuttle launches since the shuttles were first put to use and they've failed only twice. i don't think there'll be any problems this time.

anotherway is right, although i am a firm believer in Murphy's law.

imHo i wouldnt like anything more than to see NASA get the funding it deserves, and we start planning a multi-national mission to Mars.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - With the countdown for Discovery in its final hours, NASA was dealt a setback Tuesday when a window cover fell off the shuttle and damaged thermal tiles near the tail. But the space agency said it could fix the problem in time for Wednesday's launch. The plastic-and-foam cover fell at the launch pad and struck a bulge in the fuselage housing an orbital-maneuvering engine. NASA planned to inspect and repair the area — which is protected by fragile thermal tiles — late Tuesday.

is there odds in Vegas on this?

seesh. the shuttle sounds more fragile than a 1 month old baby.

You'd think an orbiter that can handle 10,000 degree depatures could survive a little falling debry.
