so... what is it you do again?

when the very cute girl, in an actual very nice manner, comes over to you to pester you non-stop to ask for hip hop? i'm talking constantly, yet in a very civil, respectful manner, as to not let me get pissed off and tell her where to go.

hmm. i kept stalling her, but in the end, the truth is i just don't have any. best i could do was Chem Bros. - Galvanize (Switch Remix).

later on last night, the funny thing was they kept bugging the manager till he was fed up, came over, and asked me to play some hip hop. (ok, so not hip hop, a crappy ass gay latin version of it, reggaeton). anyways, i tell him if he wants, he can use his PC with a playlist, and i'll stop spinning. i spin 2 more tracks, he cues hi PL. last track winds down, and...

for some reason, everything in his reggaeton folder was Oldschool ABBA. bahahaha, quite the floorkiller. whilst he sroted it out, he asked me to spin a track, and when he couldnt figure out what happened, he said to just keep going...

(btw, i went to this club to spin as a favor to a friend, which got me and a few others to do it becayse it was her bday).

by the middle of my 2nd part, i had some of those hip hoppers dancing to acid. heh. but only some, they started leaving, which was cool, as it was packed as hell in there...

so, yeah, what would you do?

I would do exactly what you did.

unless you are hired for being an all round dj or reggaeton dj or wtvr, i dont think you should be expected to play it. i would feel expected to play it.

however, if she was really hot, id bust out some rap remixes.

Snoop Dog - Drop it like its hot (sharam jey edit)

got em in mah box just in case

I actually do spin hip-hop, so I would have just started playing hip-hop.

stick in t3h pooper.

Oh, wait, this isn't the COR.

If you got no hip-hop, you can't play any hip-hop. End of story.
Plus, if you were hired to play whatever you play, its a bit unreasonable to expect you to change. Yet, you can't ignore the audience, you gotta play what they want. However, you also said it was packed, ad you gotta please the majority, and by the sounds of it the hip-hop crowd was the extreme minority. I really gotta stop sitting on the fence.....

horrible situation to be in...it all comes down to what you were hired to play...if you were told to play whatever you want and they were fully aware of your style of music then it is unfair to even ask you to change your style...
considering you didn't have any hip hop, i doubt you can pull some songs off...that being said if the customers are nice you can't just simply ignore them either...they paid to get entertained...
in the end, what club was it (music style wise)? so best advice is not to play in a club that has a different style of music than the one you spin (why...to save you tons of headackes)...

Don't have people in the DJ booth you don't know/want up there. That way people won't bother you :P

I'm not playing hip hop.

I wouldn't play hip hop, but i would play house remakes of it. If the mood was right....Everyone love Crazy in love vs Junior Jacks or what not. I even have 3 50 cent remix's that are housey. Most ppl if they are tanked, will dance to house if it has a bit of a hop hop feel.

Other hten that its sorry I dont have any of that. Ask the next person

Would probably have scouted the place first. Asked my friends etc.

When I am dealing with the unknown I tend to have a broader selection than if I know the place.
The thing I find is that when people are talking about Hip Hop, what they really mean is that weak ass chart stuff.

Parties are a totally different ball game and I will perhaps drop some earlier.
I have been known to start parties with Pharoah Monch... Dun dun dun dun... Get the fuck up! Makes for a dramatic intro and work up into breaks and then chunky house opening the door for what we love.

Cheers
Nem
