basically the trance that dominates the market today is european trance, which was basically brought up in europe. psychedelic trance was brought up at around the same time, arguably in Goa, India. two completely different scenes, with completely different values, etc.
after the term techno found its place, psy and euro were both called trance. i guess someone threw in the psy to tell each style apart from each other.
the "goa" sound originally spawned from industrial and EBM type stuff, or so ive read. and it does show...
european trance's origins..are...i dont know exactly...
someone else finish, argue, add, to this for me...
but, in a nut shell: they are the same, but so deeply different. they represent two completely different cultures, yet they have the same "trancy" sound.
