Dancing Dude What do you think of the tracklist I'll be playing in a party ??

There will be a party here in Brazil and I'll be playing in it. I am going to represent the trance scene. There will be people representing all kind of electronic music scenes.

This will be my tracklist (40min) :-

Gouryella - Tenshi (a good radio edit)
William Orbit - Barber's Adagio For Strings (Ferry Corsten Rmx)
Transa - Supernova
DJ Mind-X - Voyage
Iio - Rapture (Riva Rmx)
Paul Van Dyk - Beautiful Place (Airwave Radio Mix)
Rank 1 - Airwave

What do you think of it ?? Will be I representing the trance scene well here in Brazil ?

Lots of anthens and new stuff, and I am going to mix all them !!

Any answer will be apreciated !!

Hm...first of all its tough to do a trance set in 40min. I think you may have too many "anthems" in there too. Maybe you would want to change the tracks around a bit so you build up to something big ("adagio for strings" or "tenshi").

Overall it'll get the place jumping even though people may become a bit bored. Planning your whole tracklist before a party isn't that good either. You should plan on playing 1 or 2 songs and pick the others based on the vibe of the party and what kind of trance the crowd is receiving well.

Hope this helps!

The songs are all brilliant, but I think you've got to many anthems for only 40 minutes. Add Riva - Stringer f.e. a great track between two anthems! And one of my favourites!

i'm always against the idea of preparing a tracklist before hand.

its just like playing a pre-made Mixed Cd in front of the crowd.

A good dj always work with the crowd. once the crowd gives all hyped up and stuff, he might drop a killa track or slow down the tempo etc. depending on the situation.

Livesets is just like a roller-coaster ride. u go up and down ....
you cant keep going up and play all the anthems. that would tire out/or bore the crowd quickly.

ok, what u guys dont get is that this guy is representing trance...so he cant just put 2 anthems and rest tracks that ppl will just chill out too... As someone said, y they all radio edits?? I think u should put "Push - Universal Nation" in there somewhere...
And a prepared tracklist never works... never worked for me, u always change something... just go out there and play to the vibe like everyone else said.

Well I like your set |r[On]eD ... I think it rules ... except I'd maybe swop the order of Rapture and Barber's Adagio. You're obviously not gonna have a chance to create much of a build up or a vibe in a 40 minute set, but to me Barber's Adagio is like the most peak-time heinously uplifting thing I've ever heard, so everything else you play afterwards would kinda be an anticlimax if you know what I mean.

Also, could you tell us what musical style the DJ in front of you is gonna be spinning? If it's something atrocious like UK Garage or hip hop then you're going to find it hard to blend it seamlessly into something like Tenshi ... I think maybe if you could find out beforehand what the other guy's last record will be, then your life will be made a lot easier ... otherwise take along a couple of records with atmospheric-type openings without too many beats, so you can fade the other one into it and it won't sound like a total abortion. Something like Aria - Dido (AvB mix)??

I second what most people have said already, if your going to plan your set out in advance, you might as well just record it at your house and stick it on at the event, either way your not really Djing for the crowd.

Second you have way to many anthems, Alot of young Dj's make the mistake of doing this, an anthem should be dropped when no one's really expecting it, but they're waiting for it in anticipation, you build up to it, tease them alittle, then drop an anthem. IMO in a 40 min set you only need one. And just because a song is not an anthem does not mean it's boring or it's a track people will chill out to! There are tons of songs out there that rock, and are not considered anthems

Damnit.........i never understand why ppl plan sets out in advance.......get the feel of the crowd and play whatever records you feel fit that. Drop whatever.........forget the anthems.....unless you want to be known as an anthem dj.
