PT LE can edit stereo files just fine..

It is non destructive, so you have to export regions or bounce out..

if you just want to edit raw audio files and save them immediately, i would just get Peak or Audacity or something. Pro Tools is cool if you're actually gonna be doing multi-track recording or post-production. i wouldn't recommend it for 2 track editing, though (its output buss sounds like shit, too).

Pro Tools bus discussions need to be carefully qualified...

Crap is a relative term. In the the discussions to which you're referring the comparison is against SSL, Neves and other high end consoles, with old Pro Tools hardware. At this level Pro Tools has always been better than any Mackie or low / mid range soundcraft, so please don't throw unqualified statements about unless you can back them up.

In this case he's after LE which is something else altogether.

Back in the day the AD/DA conversters sucked donkeyballs, but anything current ranges from pretty good up to excellent.

As for a deeper technical discussion on PT's mix bus (And mixer architecture in general) I'll happily engage you on it, but not in this thread...

Coming back to this case.

I have a couple of questions:-

1. Do you really need to run Pro Tools LE?

If not then there are many other interfaces that may be better suited to your needs.

2. Do you really need 8 in 8 out analog, and also 8 I/O on fiber?

If no, then again there are other options.. Even keeping Pro Tools compatability (on the assumption you need really need it.)

If you are on a budget ebay is your frien, but if you buy any digidesign hardware make sure you get a filled out transfer of ownership form, alsong with double checking with Digi that what you buy is covered otherwise down the line you will be effed when you want to upgrade..

Peak is a great 2 track editor BTW, with some powerful batching tools too. But if you are wanting to do really complex edits I find that living in protools is much easier. Also if you are paying ou for a platform then buying additional tools whilst they may be more specialized is an extra expense at this stage.
