Well I like the slower, more emotional stuff. I enjoy the string pieces particularly, but once you start introducing the wind instruments (with the exception of the french-horn - which I used to play by the way) you begin to lose me a bit.

I've made a classical music CD to listen to in the car and in bed (to aid relaxation and promote deep thought) and the following (among others) are on it:

Pachelbel - Canon in D Minor
Albinoni - Adagio for Organ and Strings
Delibes - Flowers Duet
Dvorak - New World Symphony
Bach - Air on a G String (phwoar etc.)
Bach - Ave Maria
Beethoven - Fur Elise

And so on.

you want piano? try

beethoven - moonlight
just about any chopin
philip glass - opening
rachmaninoff - piano concerto #2

rach 3 is better but I wouldn't call it soothing.

all of Chopin's etudes are beautiful. for more relaxing ones, look at
opus 10 no. 3
opus 25 no. 7
opus 25 no. 12

personally my favourite is opus 10 no.4. its crazy! imagine how fast the guy's fingers are moving!!

Some suggestions.

Schubert's 'Impromtus' are classics.
Also check out Debussy's piano music, the preludes and the images.
Of more recent music for soothing music you can't do better than Arvo Part, especially Tabula Rasa, Summa, Festina Lente. Get one of the collections of his shorter pieces.
Another obvious suggestion is Philip Glass's piano pieces.
Happy Listening.

Not classical music, but these two gr8 tunes have elements that reminds a lot about it:

Photon Project - Illumination
and
Photon Project - Enlightenment
