Subject: Virus

A new virus has just been discovered that has been classified by
Microsoft ( http://www.microsoft.com http://www.microsoft.com> ) and
by
McAfee ( http://www.mcafee.com ) as the most
destructive ever!

This virus was discovered yesterday afternoon by
McAfee and no vaccine has yet been developed. This virus simply
destroys Sector Zero from the hard disk, where vital information
for its functioning are stored.
This virus acts in the following manner: It sends itself automatically
to all contacts on your list with the title "A Virtual Card for You".
As
soon
as the supposed virtual card is opened, the computer freezes so that
the user has to reboot. When the ctrl+alt+del keys or the reset button
are pressed, the virus destroys Sector Zero, thus permanently
destroying the hard disk. Yesterday in just a few hours this virus
caused
panic in New York, according to news broadcast by CNN
(http://www.cnn.com ).

This alert was received by an employee of Microsoft itself. So don't
open any mails with subject "A Virtual Card for You". As soon as
you get the mail, delete it. Please pass on this mail to all your
friends.

Forward this to everyone in your address book. I would rather receive
this 25 times than not at all. Also: Intel announced that a new and
very destructive virus was discovered recently. If you receive an email
called "An Internet Flower For You", do not open it.

Delete it right away! This virus removes all dynamic link libraries
(.dll files) from your computer. Your computer will not be able to boot
up.

!! SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST!!

Or don't use Outlook Express because it is a worthless piece of shit that is the cause for all these viruses. Anyone ever open a message in pine and eudora and have their hard drive wiped out?

You can't get a virus just by opening email - you have to run executable code, which will come as an attachment. If you're ultra paranoid, disable Javascript in Outlook.

Sector Zero is just like any other sector on a hard drive - it stores data. The partition table is where vital functioning information is kept. It is also impossible to physically destroy a hard drive using software, you have to use brute force.

Conclusion, this virus warning is bollocks. Don't any more of you TrancEAddicts fall for it.

Sorry for ranting:
Attaching files to your e-mail was neat when it was invented, but when it got all point and click and no security - courtesy of Micro$oft - a gate to hell was opened. Outlook Express is a M$ program, and like IE it has VisualBasic-sript included. This thing is the sole reason why the I-Love-You-virus did any damage at all last year. It includes features that allows mails to send itself to others and to write/delete files on your harddrive. Think about it for a moment, and realize that no way in hell would you ever need these features for your mails, and then ask yourself whether M$ should concentrate on including more of these *absolutely useless* features or should focus on making their OS and programs somewhat stable.

Then promise me to think about that when you re-format your harddrive next time.

Joel.... I still wouldn't enjoy getting that sector wiped out nor would I enjoy causing the same to occur to everyone in my address book

If your sending a virus to somebody that's pissing you off and you just want to screw with their computer for fun, that's one thing. It's another thing to go and just destroy random people's computers because your an @sshole.

Umm sorry but sending people viruses even for revenge reasons isn't funny.... maybe it was when you were 15, but regardless of whether they deserve it or not, its not a good thing to spread infectious computer files :P

I admit I was guilty of using Netbus on a few friends (never did any damage) just for fun back in the day, I always ensured I removed the backdoor after though. Oh yeah, and I took advantage of a win 98 exploit for about half a year before a fix was released... and I accidently took down my local cable modem service, a couple times.... but at least I never sent viruses to anyone
