Is liking Trance an embarassment where you are???

It seems that admitting to liking (or god forbid spinning) trance here (Seattle area) is like admitting that you have lepracy.

Personally I love trance, and all electronic music honestly, and have no problem with anything anyone else enjoys. But its seems like the local pastime around here is trance bashing. Almost no one admits to liking it (or EVER liking it, even tho its the music that brought them into the electronic scene most likely).

Am I alone in this? Are other parts of the country similar?

Just for example, most of the parties around here a couple years ago were almost all trance, now you can't find one that has a trance dj on its line up. Obviously there are exceptions, but for the most part I think i'm correct, Seattle peeps speak up and let me know if i'm just blind, or if you've experienced it too.

I'd also love to know where the most "trance friendly" area of the US is, or the world for that matter.

Even a lot of people who used to like trance thinks it's an embarassment. If you like trance nowadays you're a trancecracker and a tool.

This is exaggerated, but still has a fair amount of truth to it. Long live the elitism. Now bashing trance more than the regular "trance isn't music"-people.

not saying some of their points aren't valid.

Thats the thing. I know and understand that people grow. Especially when it come to tastes (music, food, people, etc).

But, not one person has ever said that to me. Most people just say: "trance is gay" or "Drum and Bass is the best." And its not just party kids, a lot of intelligent people (even some friends) can't tell me why they hate/dislike certain styles of music. I'm sure peer pressure has a lot to do with it, i mean conformity is natural.

Its just frustrating I guess. [/rant]

What really makes me laugh are the "jaded junglists" who are mad, but they don't know why they're mad. But they listen to DnB so they gotta be pissed at something! lol kids

Most people around here think trance means everything with a 4/4 kick, so they pretty much hate most of it, yep.

I love it when the first question I am asked when someone realises or knows I like trance is, "Oh my gawd, do you do ecstasy?"

lol, most people here don't even know what a 4/4 is.

I just remembered one of the best examples of what I meant earlier: A guy I used to work with was into "techno." So I talked to him a bit, he asked what I liked, I told him "trance." He got this disgusted look on his face and said, "omg, I hate trance!" Well long story short, every song he liked was mainstream trance. From Darude sandstorm to atb, to armin van buuren...

omg i hate trance!

Most people here who used to like trance just like house now. Thats why i hate house so fuckin much. All that trance needs to be liked is radio play. Like when Cocaine and Zombie Nation made the charts here, all of a sudden everyone loved it now when shitty Armin van helden and others released some house tracks they all say trance is crap.

Yes. It's referred to as "video game music". I doubt most of the idiots realize what trance actually is, but I can't care anymore. They suck.

"where you are"

You mean in my house... in my town... in my country...????
In Holland a lot of people are dissing on many famous dj's while at the same time all of them still visiting those party's.. looks like people are trying to be cool by dissing on trance.

Where I am? It's not so much an embarassment so much as it is an oddity. I don't feel shy about saying I like EDM at all, and people don't denounce me for it. They just don't understand it much at all and really only like it at a club. And even there they don't really like it, they just like the bassline because they can dance to it.
