Sure, the new hardware is great. Even the semi-new hardware can make some pretty decent sounds.
It depends what you want. The old analogue synths are far less versatile but they also each have a unique flavour that you won't find in any of the digital synths. That's why synths like the JP8080 or TB303 are so famous - the technology isn't that hard to replicate but the texture of the sound is defined by its distinctive filter circuitry.
If you want versatility, get a DSP-based synth - just don't expect that warm analogue sound from them.
