Losing that drive.....

This is for those of you that started down a career path, did you ever wake up one day and realize, "Fack, what the hell am I doing?"

I'm 25 and I'd quit my job a few months ago, money wise I'm alright for the time being, but regardless, I'm finding that I really don't want to get back into doing what I was, and I'm sure as hell not sure of what I would like to do.

The steady paycheque and shiny baubles really sucker you in, and in my case, 5 years blinked by and I'm middle managing and wondering why I'm spending 8 hours a day trying to avoid doing my job.....

Just kind of one those moments that you have and you're left wondering wtf just happened.

Anyone else go through this?

same boat, but many ppl dont realise it that if ur not doing a career which u enjoy isnt worth it!

So i most likely will be moving to BC,vancouver to get back to studying to what i want and then look for a job in that feild!
sit down and rethink ur career is all i have to say and get educated in that feild and go for it!

I am (well was) making great money, but its not abt that anymore for me as well, its abt the satisfaction or drive it get out of the job.

stay in there and hang tight, and if u have the money and time pursue what u really want to do without wasting ur time, change is good!

A lot of people get stuck in a miserable cycle and don't do anything about it.

Follow your passion, the money should come later

you know what is funny, I was just talking about this on Saturday night.. I am good at my job and it pays the bills and whatnot.. but I am in desperate need of a change. I need to get out of sales but I don't know what it is that I want to do yet and unfortunately I can't just quit and go back to school cuz I won't have a condo anymore if I do that.. so I am kind of stuck..

Yeah, the thing is, when you've got student loans, a mounting visa bill and are trying to figure out how to pay for shit, a large cheque is kinda hard to say no to.

On the flip side, my sis loves what she's doing, but doesn't really make a ton doing it, and a lot of the time has a hard time making ends meet. When I see that, I gotta wonder if that's really any better an alternative.

Well, in my case, my g/f loves what she does, and is starting to make some decent money outta it, so we recently took a promotion she got offered and moved out here, hence my ever so clever nick.... :

It's good that she's making more money that I don't have to worry about the funds as much, and we sold our place back in our old town so we got a little bit extra sitting in the bank now, but it still sucks knowing I have to get to doing something, but having no real desire to do what I'm experienced and admittedly good at, as well as having no idea what I'd really like to do in place of it.

If I'm not careful, she's prolly gonna get on this damn board and tell my ass to get a job already and stop complaining.....

I think you were looking for Malfunction in the Groin Junction, down the hall three doors, take a left, first one on the right. Right next to Mercks new human test labs.

Although, I guess this really clears up any issues with going to see DJs and hitting up the parties.... at least until the money runs out.

U're going through what is called the "Quarter Life Crisis" I have a friend who's been working on doing a documentary about this. She works for the Life Channel, and hopes to have it done soon. She said that what made her think of doing it was the fact that she thought she was the only one going through it and never realized how many people are thinking, feeling, and generally going through the exact same thing. I think we're coming to an age where the monitary satisfaction no longer outweighs the personal/emotional satisfaction of enjoying your work/life.

Do what u luv and u'll never work a day in your life!

I'm 22, and since high school I thought I was going to be an accountant. I finished 2 years at York in Business Admin + Accounting, and I currently work for an accounting firm.

Last semester I had, had enough. I quit my program and enrolled in RCC, for computers, databases and networking. I realised I did not want to be doing earnings reports and paper work all my life. I wanted to be working on more hands on projects, with more problem solving and creative thinking.

Its kinda scary right now. I have to continue to work and go to school, while my student debt just continues to sky rocket.

I really hope i made the right choice in switching. Im sure I did, as I love playing with computers, and I was so sick of accountants.

I know how you feel.
