To be fair there are many options...
You need something you can work with. That's the most important thing!
I have used a lot of headphones, and while I don't claim to be an expert, I can offer some advice to you.
I have made tunes and DJ using some Sennheiser HD212, these are similar to the 202 mentioned earlier, they are not aimed at studio use. They do not give a flat response nor do any of the other headphones mentioned above here, all of them have got attenuation to bass response, basically they boost the bass to enable beat matching easier in clubs. This is because they are aimed at DJ uses. Now, while many people will say they are rediculous to produce on, because they dont give a flat response, its just as important to know how your music sounds. My 212's give the most noticble bass response I've ever heard on a set of headphones, but I have had them for 2 years and know this. I know how trance should sound on them, so I know how a track I am producing should sound too.
This is the same for all headphones, obviously the better the pair of headphones you can afford, then the cleaner your mixes will be because it will eleiminate some guess work.
I strongly recommend you steer away from MDRV700's by sony, cause I have heard nothing but bad news about them. Plus for the price, go for either sennheiser HD25's or Sony MDR7056 they dont look as nice, but wont break on you, and sound awesome!
If this is too much to spend initially, then cheaper sennheisers are a good bet. Any of the following would be a sound investment 200, 202, 210, 212.
One more thing!!!
Play and listen to lots of music befor you use them to produce, it may take several days or weeks to get adjusted to your new headphones, but its worth it at the end of the day!
