Rock music

I find that the biggest problem with rock/heavy metal is the fact that they dont really bother with compression or mastering.

so the end result is often a bunch of songs with lyrics you cant even make out because of cymbals being too loud. Not only that but the cymbals sound really choppy and watery because they haven't been limited/compressed.

I don't suppose there are any non-edm bands that prefer perfection?

There are plenty of well produced rock records. There are plenty of shitty electronic tracks.

WTF are you on? :P Listen to SOAD's Toxicity Cd and say it would need some mastering? IMO it's one of the best sounding/produced heavy metal records of all time..

I'm listening to Metallica right now and although its the S&M cd, i just listened to reloaded and i still dont know what you mean. I agree with your statement if you jump into unsigned garage bands who record their own shit with a tape recorder or a mic on a computer, but otherwise i have to disagree

one of the worst CDs, also not heavy metal but the mastering is perfect. Also, let's not forget that rock musicians actually play real instruments

I think that after listening to trance for a while I'm kinda accustomed to crisp production so I notice if I'm listening to rock that has a more 'low-fi' feel. It's kinda annoying in some ways, sometimes I just want to enjoy the music and not think about production.

i have this Staind album which sounds very lofi as well.. dunno what happened there

but as always, there is no need to generalize. there are plenty of well produced rock songs.

the only thing that bothers me sometimes is the bass drum, as it tends to stay on the background too much, leaving a bit of emptiness down below. but that's probably because i'm used to the hard hitting EDM kicks..

That's a ridiculous generalisation, and I've never encountered anything like that in any rock music.
