But I think it won't be as good as your 2000 election.

It appears that the OP does not understand the fundamental differences between what happend in Germany and was went on in the US in 2000. In 2000 the election appeared to have been rigged and in the end, it seemed as if a court had to decide who was president and who was not.

In Germany it is clear which party has what amount of votes, apart from Dresden, where due to special circumstances the vote will be tallied later. While our results are suprising, they are most likely genuine. Yes, it is likely that there will be a re-election, due to the obvious stalemate, but the was no tampering.

correct, but the result makes for some political entertainment nonetheless. If not the politicians, the electorate clearly made a fool of themselves. WHY did this election happen in the first place? WHICH party had SEVERELY lost in the state elections, indicating a strong disapproval for the government and a desire for change, thus providing the reason for calling an election? WHO thought that he could not continue to govern?

I completely agree that it is quite rediculous. It is obvious that there is now a sense of "Black & Red Election Circles" similar to Red & Blue states in the USA.

I am just glad that Postage from the USA to Germany is on 80 cents, so that sending in the next couple of absentee ballots isn't going to ruin me financially, considering that I believe that we will have 're-elections' again in the near-future.

I guess if 5 Million unemployed people cannot ruin us, the cost of running a couple of extra elections won't do much harm either

LOL, on the face of it that seems plausible. But look where Italy is with its record of how many governments since the end of the war? That's what the current situation here reminds me of. To many small parties preventing stable majorities. Not good in the long run. What we need is a strong and stable majority of the same party (or coalition) in both houses of parliament. Doesn'T really matter that much which side it is, though given the current majority in the upper house that suggests the same should be tried to achieve in the lower house.
