It appears that the OP does not understand the fundamental differences between what happend in Germany and was went on in the US in 2000. In 2000 the election appeared to have been rigged and in the end, it seemed as if a court had to decide who was president and who was not.
In Germany it is clear which party has what amount of votes, apart from Dresden, where due to special circumstances the vote will be tallied later. While our results are suprising, they are most likely genuine. Yes, it is likely that there will be a re-election, due to the obvious stalemate, but the was no tampering. | correct, but the result makes for some political entertainment nonetheless. If not the politicians, the electorate clearly made a fool of themselves. WHY did this election happen in the first place? WHICH party had SEVERELY lost in the state elections, indicating a strong disapproval for the government and a desire for change, thus providing the reason for calling an election? WHO thought that he could not continue to govern?
