North Korea has agreed to give up all its nuclear programs and rejoin the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty as soon as possible, in a stunning development at the six-party international talks.
In return, the secretive communist country will get oil and power aid and security guarantees.
The North "promised to drop all nuclear weapons and current nuclear programs ... as soon as possible and to accept inspections" by the International Atomic Energy Agency, according to the unanimous agreement by the six countries at the talks being held in Beijing.
"All six parties emphasized that to realize the inspectable denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula is the target of the six-party talks,'' the statement said.
The United States and North Korea pledged to respect each other's sovereignty and right to peaceful coexistence.
A door was left open to North Korea resuming a civilian nuclear program at some future point if it regains international trust.
"This is the most important result since the six-party talks started more than two years ago,'' said Wu Dawei, China's vice foreign minister.
The talks have been going on for just over two years. They include China, Russia, Japan, the United States and North and South Korea.

Seriously I don't get it. Countries who threaten to take the world hostage with their technology get rewarded for stopping the threat? Now they get free oil and food just to not do something they never even completed in the first place?
It will be quite the spectacle when in another 5 years some other covert program is discovered or the North Koreans once again get a case of PMS and decide to leave the NPT and threaten to build nukes.

I think it will be the last time for a while. They are being awarded because this had to be resolved peacefully. Only a retarted country/leader would practice nuclear recklesness, this goes for the U.S.A. too.
This is great news because now we have less to worry about...now, Iran...give it up or prepare to battle!
Ya and I think if Iran doesn't comply entirely with the EU and the USA then it wont just be the USA and the UK attacking them, like what happened in Iraq.
It'll be lots and lots of countries that will end it quickly.
However, I'm pretty sure Iran has a decent military but it's not like it will do them much good.

Ok, dude i agree with you but....you do realize there are like 3 dozens countries in Iraq making up the coalition right? Also, Iran will be as much of a formidable enemy like Iraq. However, there's already proof that Iran has a nuclear program and will not allow inspection or outside influence...if you ask me it doesn't look for THEM considering the fact that when the same thing happened in Iraq they spanked them like little bitches. And since it's a fact that Iran has a program more people and countries would be backing up an Iranian assault.

Yes just like America, we get free oil, aid, and food for threatening to turn our neighbors into a sea of fire with nuclear weapons.
Back to the corner.
You know, Bush actually filled the basement of the White House up with all of the oil he and Dick Cheney smuggled from Iraq in the coffins of "dead soldiers." It's crazy, I tell ya.

At first I suspected sarcasm but I'm not sure!
At the end of the day America does use it's power (or more specifically the threat of it's power) to get what it wants

In response to your earlier concern (bout "rewarding" countries who give up nukes)...well if North korea didn't have a nuclear program then there would probably be no sanctions and would have recieved aid just like all the other poor countries do, so I guess it figures that if they give up their nuclear programs then they should get what they would have got before...

Well I think you just confirmed everything I said, hahaha. And yes there are other countries supporting Iraq's insurgence.

ya just like how they thought the whole world is gonna back them up in the Iraq invasion
Dude, the USA isnt the one even dealing with Iran mostly. It's Europe. So yes, the world will support it.
You are the one with shit flying from your ass I think, because Iran does have a nuclear program, maybe not one for weapons but they've confirmed their energy nuclear program is or has been started. Iran started it because the EU failed to meet a deadline for a counter offer of Economic bonuses to discourage Iran's nuclear development.
