[trance/uplifting] my first public work - as yet untitled

I've been working steadily the last few months on producing my own new material. I've gotten some positive comments from my friends and have decided to be brave and share my latest piece with a larger crowd.

I encourage you to give it a listen and tell me what you think. If you people like it, i'll post the rest of my works

I might have to rehost the file if my server gets too banged up by the downloads, but rest assured that i'll put it somewhere and update this thread.

rylos-untitled.mp3

Thanks!!

A little Dry

The beginning is kinda drab, imo, the high hats sound too dry along with alot of things. What you need in the intro is a little more originality. Some nice sound manipulation techniques to add ambience. This track needs a lot of work as far as atmosphere goes. The bass is pretty basic. The melody is pretty vague, I can't get quite what's going on. The backgrounds strings are about the only thing I like.
Now for the constructive criticism:
I suggest you get a main melody other than the same repeating synth loop in the background. The bassline is a bit boring for my tastes.

Remove the High hats that are by themselves in the beginning and add the ones that are 3 hit that come in later. The drumroll, make it fade in instead of just a blunt snare roll. Every 8th beat try adding a double kick, in example Kick Kick Kick KickKickKick. It just gives it a sense of levitation without using a snare roll every other beat.

The other problem is the lack of organization, what i mean is you have a break first thing in the song which is a build up and whatnot, but then you have a build up followed by a kick and then a break and a build up agian which leads to every instrument playing but I still dont feel the energy. So there really isn't a structure it sounds more like you took of a kick here added a highhat there and kick and highhat later on and a pinch of synths.

Back to the drawing board with this one I think.

Wow. Thats a lot to take in there. Thanks for the input.

Now for some explanation:

This is by no means a final work. And I wasn't going for the mainstream either. I don't expect anything I create to turn lots of heads...just a couple. And its the couple that I really want! I think I have an old school feel to my work while keeping it very repetitive (like the house music I've been playing lately), and I'm personnally happy with it. Mind you, I've done all of my experimenting in the Trance genre without having heard anything new in Trance for the last 3 years. I've been playing mostly house all that time.

That being said, I do see room for improvement. Its pretty basic, even for what I'm used to. I'm still wrapping my head around the little things. The sweeps and samples that fill out the track. This particular piece was written at the spur of the moment in about an hour. And its all major chords...something which I've been told is hard to pull off.

I shall continue to work away at it. Post more comments if you like. I'll take it all!
