anyway to tell if my recording quality will be shiat?

So I've got a Emachines PC T2792. I'm going to start recording my demo soon. I am wondering if its worth buying the necessary adapters and then come to find out that my computer cant record for shit. How do I know what kind of soundcard I have? What else should I be looking out for?
