well in my sociology class we talked about spanking and why society has moved away from it when it comes to disiplin children. now i was SERIOUSLY surprised when the professor asked the whole class

"raise ur hand if u ever got spanked as a child"
almost the whole class exept this girl and me did

and when he asked "rais ur hand if you were not spanked as a child"
both of us did.

^^^that surprised me, but THEN he asked "who thinks spanking is a way to teach disipline to a child?"

and a mindblowing number of poeple. maybe 70 out of the class of 80 said yes.


what are your thoughts, were u spanked as a child? would you spank your kids ?

you see there are to many parents, who can't control their children anymore... why? because they are spoiled...why? because parents don't dare to spank their children anymore... why? because people think it's a bad thing to do (well you don't have to beat them to death) and because your own children can take you to court for something like that.

u see i think parents are just to lax on disipline. but SURELY u can teach with out violence. weather it is punishing them, taking away priviliges.

kids will learn. also the bullshit "CASUE I TOLD U SO" attitude. gotta explain shit to kids

and those supernanny show are great to see. but how sad to see so many parents who can't control their children. I think now a days there are to many "young parents"

in belgium there is a famous bike runner. and his daughter just gave birth to a son (I think, not sure) but she was 17... she's all over the belgian news papers and magazines.. bad example for other children (because that's what she still is)

Seriously though, there is nothing wrong with it...In my case I was BARELY spanked...I could count on one hand the times I was...I'm the only child and I usually got away with a lot but sometimes I did stupid things and I got spanked for them...but honestly looking back on it now, I'm glad. I think it's about disciplining your child. I don't agree with beating them or anything close to that, but if they do something wrong, TALKING doesn't work all the time. I also say DON'T spank your child out of anger, it sends out a wrong message which could instill fear & it's better for a child to respect the parent than to FEAR them.

In any case, I would but only if they needed to be. I would never lose my temper and wail on them though, that's child abuse.

Different children respond differently to different kinds of discipline. In my opinion parents should try out different kinds at a very early age to see which one the child responds to the easiest. If it is spanking then that is fine. If it is sitting in a corner for 5 minutes, whatever.
I do feel that hitting a child anywhere else except their behind is borderline. A good soap washing out of the mouth always works well when they talk back badly, no hits to the face.

Where it goes all wrong is when the parent does not start communicating with the child at an early age to see how he or she feels. Lack of communication and honesty between children and parents is the reason why parents have such a hard time in their child's teenage years.
