erm, i didnt read the last page or so, lots to read, too little time, but i do agree with krysx and kris about promotion and the scene in toronto.

the thing is, we CAN make vancouver scene like the one in TO.
if we, as a community, make the smallest effort in promoting these events, big or small, the word will eventually get out.

ive seen parties with big name djs put on in vancouver with nearly inexistent promotion and the results were directly influenced by it. i've also seen events that were whored out like mad for months with flyers at clubs, posters downtown, flyers on cars, announcements on msg boards, angelo's show and i've seen those parties sell out to the max.

i dont know if its the west coast attitude of being too laid back and lazy to get out there and spread the word, or if its the thought 'oh, what i do wont matter cause no one cares' that plays a role in this, but what krysx said was right on the money.

vancouver has enormous amount of potential. look at lotus and all the house nights. why do you think they are so successful? because those promoters went out, told everyone that those events and clubs were cool and they were the place to be and now those places get a weekly following.

no, i dont know all the logistics of throwing an event, but i do know that the amount of money and effort you put into something will have an equally large and successful outcome in terms of revenue, response and attendance

yes, i do think, even the littlest events like this one should be heavily promoted, otherwise all you'll get is 10 people at a 200-300 people venue and the club would see it as a failure and not want to continue the working relationship

Thank You! - It's nice to have at least one on your side.

Now, I had to start this new thread cause appreantly the
other one got locked or closed or whatever ..

All in all, I have a broken hand so not much type for me
but I promise to start a trance revolution in this city.

Someone provide me with these "promoters" phone numbers
and names. 10x. I shall lay the smacketh down!!

Any specific reason?

I may not know about the scene too much, but I do know telling
someone to shut the fuck up is ignorant and rude.

Great idea! I totaly agree. I gotta start digging into
your municipal laws here. Gorg is open all night, I donno
how i.e. plush can't be.

Vancouver city council decided to turn the Plaza Of Nations into a casino last year, the legal capacity for parties there was around 3000 people. Before the city enforced tougher restrictions, there used to be closer to 5000 people there on any given weekend.

I've DJ'ed many times at gorgomish and plush, it makes absolutely no sense in comparing the 2 venues. Gorgomish is an afterhours that doesn't serve liquor. Plush is a nightclub which does, hence the early closing hours.

Asking for promters numbers so you can lay the smack down is equally as rude and disrespectful. I had my own trance for over 3 years, so believe it or not I know what it takes to run a successful clubnight in Vancouver. I share your frustration about the current state of the scene, unfortunately there isn't really anything anyone can do about it until a new venue arises or clubs are allowed to remain open for longer hours etc.

I don't feel like typing out all the shows I've thrown or played at.. if you want any more info on me check my site www.dannytaylor.ca

wow, im being quoted hehe
i feel flattered

as for plush not being open all night, its all about the owner really
if the owner if willing to pay for that extra license, plus they would lose the ability to sell alcohol

like danny said, the laws are dumb in this city
there are ways trying to adapt to them and all, but venue wise, i think we're stuck for now.

having said that, there are still ways of having good parties in vancouver. i just hope the city gets out of this crappy low and starts to recover back to how it was before, and soon. thats why every little effort (like the uranus lounge night) will make a huge difference if maintained

People in the Vancouver area can't handle their alcohol! Instead of partying responsibly, they get so shit-faced that the police want to cut back the drinking hours. We can't even enjoy the fireworks anymore without some shit-faced assholes stabbing innocent people!

Have you played in Europe? The FREEDOM! I miss it.
I don't feel we live in a free society with all these
restrictions; but that's another thread.

I think you took my line just a tad too serious. But
I still believe they should put the joints down and
GET OUT THERE, SEE THE PEOPLE and PROMOTE!
You have to agree with me on GTR/Pulser @ Plush.

Best I seen thus far is Plush, and that in itself is small
in comparison to say .. Toronto's Guvernment or The Docks.
I can't believe with the size of this city it holds such small
nite life.

It's not neccessarily the venues either, but the crowds
they draw and atmosphere they create. Lotus is a small place
but I really like it despite poor ventilation and crowdy-ness.
I come for the music and the people! There acctually is a vibe
in that place, you just gotta hold out till 3AM.
And of course ( Ohh Ca-na-da!! ) it closes at 3:30am ..lol

I am seriously debating a move back to Europe.
You can drink, dance, fuck and snort All Night Long.

Is there no way for them to stay open till 7AM and simply serve water
after 2AM or whatever it is. Or is the club owner convinced
he's not gonna profit as well as soon as the bar closes so
fuck the people, let's shut the place down??

How about Commodore? I heard Tiesto played there? any decent?

The only issue I could see with that is that it falls on Wednesdays.
I won't be there, I have to WORK! .. but the students may come by

commodore won't host any more dance events

i'm not sure what the logstics of serving water after 2am are. when i was at guvernment, the bar did close at 2 or 3 and only had water after that.

again, i dont know what the logistics of running a club open till 7am would be. it is expensive and it will substantially increase the cover charge, which would be a deterrent to many people, that is something you always have to keep in mind.

I'm sure it will be more cover charge, but that's the point to get people there earlier. The earlier you get there, the less cover charge.

If you want to come in after 2am, hick the price up another $5-$10, why? Plain and simple, people still want to party! and at that time of the night, it won't matter to most people to pay an extra $5-$10 to party for that extra 2-3-4 more hours.

So what was the whole point of Vancouver extending bar hours until 4am anyway??? No club is open that late anymore, and if you can't get Plush to start things off... no one will follow
